You may recall that back in June we posted SF Good Questions: Can I Make a Platform Bed Out of Wooden Pallets?. Although we really like the vaguely industrial look of the pallet-turned-bed, readers raised some concerns about using salvaged pallets -- including splinters and toxic chemicals from pressure-treating. We've since found a green alternative: Green Nest's Organic Slat Foundation.
Made of kiln-dried spruce wood, the two-inch wide slats are spaced two inches apart to allow for air circulation, and provide extra-firm support. The foundation also has a heavy-duty organic cotton cover.

What is greener: Repurposing something (wooden pallets) into a functional object (bed) OR buying an object expressly made into functional object (bed) but made to look like the something (wooden pallets) and calling it green?
Green (or should I say green marketing)- another way to make you buy more crap that is labelled ":green".
Green' (really being Green)- recycling more and repurposing more and thus buying less crap ( whether its 'green" or otherwise)

Buying "green" will often put you in the red.
The beds on Greennest.com are not made with pressure treated wood, which can be toxic. Although more expensive than recycled pallets, it is worth it's weight in gold when it comes to your health. You get the convenience sure, plus certified materials and a foundation with a warranty, etc.

I have to agree with Sarahmarie. Although the bed is more pricey than recycling a wooden pallet for a bed, it saves your health and money in the long run. Instead of sleeping on a bed that is filled with toxins, adhesives, and pesticides, you are sleeping on organic wood. The price is initially steep but it is worth it when it comes to my health, and that is one thing I will not skimp on!
