About 20 years ago, in 1993, Paris opened its own elevated park, long before New York City's much-adored High Line. It's located in the 12th arrondissement and runs 2.8 miles in length. The High Line is fabulous, no doubt a welcome breath of beauty in the bustling city, but I just found it interesting that there is another park quite similar in idea, resplendent in nature in Paris. Now I'm kicking myself for not visiting this unique landscape in Spring of last year.

It looks like a beautiful series of parks and was featured in the Before Sunset movie. One day, I'll get there. Fantastique!
I walked down the Coulee Verte back in 1997...it was so lovely!
Lucca, in Tuscany, also has an elevated park - on top of the old city walls. Lucca's pretty unique in that respect, as most of the other cities of that era had their walls taken down as they grew. They're 3-4 stories high and maybe 30 yards wide at top, with huge old trees and a walking path. Lucca's lovely, quiet and relaxing. Also, it has tall brick towers with tiny gardens on top!
I lived literally right next to that for four months a couple of years ago. The end closest to the Bastille was a lovely walk. The end closest to the edge of Paris creeped me out when I was alone; lots of dark underpasses and shadowy corners. It's beautiful, but I wouldn't do it alone at a weird time of day!
