Have you visited the Ferry Building in San Francisco? Originally built in 1898, it fell into disrepair by the 1970s. In 2003, it reopened with much of the same historical architectural details. The Ferry building was reconstructed with ambitious sustainability practices as well. The building now hosts an indoor farmer's market and a bevy of locally-produced goods.
Here's a view from the back of the Ferry building, the perfect spot to watch sea gulls and eat a picnic.
