Dwell magazine is featuring an amazing 704-square-foot home of Portland, Oregon-based architect Matt Kirkpatrick. The space is efficient and smart without feeling small. It's an incredible space, with stylish organizational solutions and mixed use of indoor/outdoor hang out areas.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I don't see a ladder or stairs. How did they get up there?
I hate to be the downer on this, but I am sort of sick of seeing these posts-- Look what you can do with 700 Square Feet! (if you own your place, can knock walls down, have the money to do built ins AND are basically starting from scratch).
When you build your space from the ground up, you have the luxury to contemplate the usage of space and storage. I want to see creative thinking in rentals!
I would like to see more creativity in rentals as well. I am a military spouse and we will probably not own for a very very long time.
I like that idea, more rentals. Where I live, you can find lots of rentals at 700 sq ft (like what I currently live in) but will rarely see something for sale that small.
I actually like these types of posts but agree that they probably don't apply very well for people who can't afford to do these types of expensive design/build projects. This was featured in Dwell after all. I guess perhaps the point is that we can all take lessons/inspiration away from all sorts of homes especially the ones we can't afford.
as the author of many of the green style posts, i try to feature things that inspire us, not necessarily are applicable to everyone and may not float everyone's boat ... things to dream on that are done in a creative, green way -- that's how i see it. good feedback! happy weekend :)
I believe one should look at all these posts with a filter on their eyes.
One. If you are not a home owner its most likely that you can't even paint your wall with out notifying the landlord so of course you would not be able to do these custom minimalist/built in projects. Stick to Ikea stuff.
Two. "Read between the lines"... or view ideas within the image. The towel in the "p" trap of the sink is genius. Its green, Its low cost, and every rental has one. You can probably stash a roll of TP in that trap too for emergencies ;0)
Three. If you are desperately looking for ideas to stash/store your stuff then you have too much junk. Have a yard sale.
I also would like to see more DIY in rentals, rather than designer houses. This is great for innovation showcasing but inaccessible to most of us.
