Last week, I wrote about the stylish redesign of San Francisco International Airport's new Terminal 2 over at Apartment Therapy. But what impressed me the most about T2 is the commitment to sustainable design and services.

It started with the water refilling stations. Just past the concourse, I noticed there was an actual place to fill up reusable water bottles. I was so excited to not have to wedge a bottle under the bathroom tap! And then you look around and there are multiple areas for sorted waste- trash, paper, plastic and compost. And upon closer inspection, the food spots lean toward local, organic and artisanal.

The new terminal is green to the core. T2 managed to recycle 90% of the waste generated during the renovation that finished mid-April. They are expected to receive Gold LEED certification.
