GreyWater Gardens: California Relaxes The Law

GreyWater Gardens: California Relaxes The Law

While we love the idea of a greywater garden (like the one we saw at the Dwell on Design home tour), the extensive plumbing restrictions here in California have prevented that from becoming, forgive the pun, little more than a pipe dream. But come August, we may have reason to celebrate: the state is considering adopting a more lenient graywater code. Under the new code, a clothes washer or other single-fixture residential greywater system, such as a shower, could be installed or altered without a construction permit...

...which means that installing one, even as renter, would become feasible. If so, we'd consider a road trip to Santa Barbara to take part in the Laundry to Landscape Greywater Systems Workshop being held on August 4th. If that's not possible, Oasis Design offers online instructions.
