If you live in an apartment and don't have a fireplace, you probably never will unless you move. That's why we like the Ground Floor coffee table by Christophe Pillet. It brings a fire element into homes that might not otherwise be able to install a fireplace...
Ground Floor uses Planika's Glassfire technology, which burns a clean liquid fuel, Fanola, that doesn't require special ventilation. This technology means the fire can be inserted into what is otherwise a normal piece of furniture: a coffee table. The table comes in a black walnut veneer finish with a choice of white or red lacquer. The table's big at 51" square.

It looks like a candle out of control more than it does any sort of fireplace. I'd prefer using a simple candle over this to bring that "fire element" into my home.

I wonder how legal this is in most cities? Laws about open flames in enclosed spaces? Seems like a fireplace offers a lot more protection. It does look pretty, though. :)
Christine, at Eastern Market there's a flea market vendor who has coffee tables that have reservoirs they always have candles in.
I have a silver gallery tray with 5 Kosta snowball candles, and that works really well for me. It's a pain to blow out the candles (prevents pyro-kitty problems) every time I go into the kitchen or the bathroom.
