Framing and hanging our collection of art is one of our big projects for the new year so we were inspired when we spotted this varied group of orange and red artwork hung in a friend's family room.

Though she's mixed prints, paintings and photographs from all different eras, the common color — even when it's just a tiny accent — makes them feel totally harmonious. She wasn't crazy about all of the images so she liked that putting them together made them feel like part of a larger composition. We'd love to try and even larger collection of art grouped by color so the images themselves start to become abstract when viewed from a distance.

Ack, not the verboten mix of "prints, paintings and photographs from all different eras"!
Good to know that it looks good IN SPITE OF this obvious arrangement faux pas.
I don't think you should put art you don't love on the wall. No matter how cleverly arranged.
Have to go with Lisa on this--My walls are a mix different things but I love every piece. If I didn't like something, no matter how nicely arranged--I'd see it first every time.
While I agree with Lisa (Montreal) and GreenJessicaA, there's an important detail that I left out: most of the artwork that she isn't crazy about belongs to her husband (and he does love it) so her challenge was to find a way to display it that would make both of them happy.

I think I'd like it better if the top line was consistent.
