One of our favorite art blogs, booooooom.com, recently held a Where the Wild Things Are fort-building contest and the entries, including the contest winner, by Providence artist and woodworker, Eric Rice (image 3), are out-of-this-world awesome.
On a freezing and rainy day like today, we could totally imagine our grown-up selves sneaking away into a cozy homemade fort and forgetting about the rest of the world for a little while. Visit booooooom.com to see all of the amazingly creative contest entries.

This contest was in conjunction with the awesome Where the Wild Things Are blog, We Love You So. If you like the idea of cozy forts, you should check out the variety of wild things apparel, children's literature recommendations, and wild things interpretations that have been posted so far.
That pug looking up in that 1st pic is awesome. He/She was probably wondering, "what the heck is going on here..."
i love the fourth pic, and i'm inspired to make my own fort now!
LOVE it.
I would have been all over that stick fort about ten years ago. Luckily, I haven't grown much...
Great book. Why do adults feel compelled to ruin a classic with movies and creepy contests?
I might actually consider doing this! even though that first photo makes me wonder about that boy/man!?!?!
Anyone who's played Bioshock will be a little disturbed by the rabbit mask in the first picture.
If you're 30 and you still feel the psychological need to create a fort, then I say you're doing something wrong.
Sad and creepy.
wow, everyone here sounds like a bunch of bitter old farts. forts are fun for all ages.
I'm with you joshhh! Having a dinner picnic or just a lazy chat in an impromptu fort is a cozy bit of sweetness. I'm glad my friends & loved ones like making fun and beauty out of materials at hand.
I built a fort for a party I was hosting once.
Adults of all ages loved it.
You naysayers are not the kind of people I want to be friends with.
And I wouldn't want to be friends with grown people who build forts, sit in them in their underwear, and then post pictures online.
That pug has me laughing so hard!!!
I love the fort, but the grown man in underwear and rabbit mask is fracking creepy!!!
