We have to admit that we were afraid that this round might be too easy for the decor-savvy Apartment Therapy readers and for most, it was a slam dunk...
...if you are one of the 104 readers who guessed the 50s, you got it absolutely right - it is actually from 1954. 50 readers got it close by going with the 60s. Only 10 readers guessed the 70s, 8 gave the 40s a go and the 80s, 90s and Now just got a few votes each.
It is a "Republic Steel Kitchen" that we found on http://www.midcenturyhomestyle.com/inside/living-room/1950s/gallery/page14.htm">Mid-Century Home Style. The design features mentioned by Mid Century Home Style as typical of the era are the stainless steel range top, wall oven, chromed toaster and the George Nelson saucer pendant.
Some interesting comments from the original post:
Thermador cook top, appliances... I'd say 1957 - fledgling
Steel cabinets w/ black toekicks, Red countertops and half-round end shelves w/ Aluminum edge trim, striped linoleum floor, barkcloth draperies...it can only be the 1950's - bepsf
Wowsers. CRAZY how 'now' that looks. - Cashew
Definitely 1950's era. My boyfriend's first apartment had a 1950's era kitchen. It had the steel cabinets, cherry red counter tops with aluminum edging. I loved that kitchen! - pollymagoo
my grandma's house built in the late 50s had those end shelves in her kitchen and they look exactly like that. i would guess 1958-1959ish. - twelve
I'd say the latter half of the 50's in a more contemporary styled home w/ traditional design elements, the oven and stove were my giveaways, as is the red counters w/ aluminum trim as is the George Nelsom pendant. I like that kitchen quite a bit BTW. - ciddyguy
Thanks to everyone for playing along!
