Welcome to the first "Guess the Decade" of 2009. A dressing room is not a spot that many of us mere mortals have room for in our homes, but it is an especially fun one to take a peek at for style clues to try and discern the decade it was designed in. Take a good look at the interior design and then jump below to log your guess:
Comments and conjecture are welcome in the comments, as always, but if you know the source of the photo - PLEASE don't tell. We promise to reveal it tomorrow, so please check back then for the answer.
Good luck!

By looking at the rug it looks 80's or maybe now. The Ottoman duel storage is very 2000.
Well, the lucite & leopard chair, the poodle, the chinese art deco rug (which was huge from the 20's to the early 60's) leads me to believe it's the 60's. The two things that throw me off; the black closet & the storage/ottoman. But I'll vote for the 60's.
Dibs on now-sies.
The closets don't look like vintage clothing to me. Too much stuff! I voted for the eighties, mostly because of the rug. The colors just made me think of 80's early 90's...
i'm guessing from the thick magazines/catalogs on the ottoman this is from the early 80's...new york?
I went 80's, though part of me wanted to answer "now" because of the closet organizer...
Now--because this photo has been on this blog and many others. Can't remember which, but some designer's closet, if I recall correctly.
I am guessing 40's just to be contrary.
I'm guessing its the 60s...although I'm usually way off base on these guess the decade games.
The asymmetrical Swarovski Chandelier and the wenge-paneled closet system are dead giveaways...
...some pieces many be vintage, that that room is 21st Century.
80ies because of the hair style.
I am thinking 90's Betsy Johnson....the photograph looks very familiar.
I'm thinking now or 90s. It's too carefully constructed in an eclectic way to be anything other than the last two decades. Plus it reminds of the Australian designer allanah hill, who made it big in the 90s. And I was so into that style then. If it's earlier, I'll eat my pillow. Final guess: current decade.
Too eclectic to be anthything but retro "now"
Reminiscent of 30's movie sets, mirrored drawers, animal print upholstery, etc. yet the giveaway is the double hung closet rods & absence of visible lengthy frocks. I therefore voted 80's, the dawn of the closet organizing era. Whenever it is from, Feminine & Bee-yoo-tee-ful!
The whole overscale, decorated closet/dressing room idea is very now. It started when McMansions needed some excuse to account for all the extra rooms.
Lots of vintage trends. I'm guessing the photo is current.
I guessed the 60's based on the bold patterns in the clothing...but, after reading the other posts, now I'm not quite sure!
Whatever decade, please let the style never be popular again!
I went with now, because this looks way too contrived to be authentic.
I'm probably wrong!
Yay! My favorite game is back!!
I vote "now" because of the dog "accessory", the eclectic mix of styles, and the leopard print lucite chair. (Good point about the wenge wood, bepsf.)
Now.
Clues: the rug; frame and feet of the split-ottoman; the floor and chandelier, as well as the attempt to "age" the photo.
Now!
90's?
now!
Now, because of the rugs, the vanity, the art, the clothes, the leopard chairs, and the collection of purses in the closet
Oh so very very now.
Now!
Those mirrored chests and everything above say now. Make it so!
i think now too because of the lucite chair legs and the mirrored dresser.
(sorry Nudik - I deleted your comment - above, we ask that you not reveal the source of the photos in the comments so that everyone can play along - we reveal the answer the following day - thanks for understanding!)
Looks very Hollywood 40's to me. Whatever decade it is, it's the ugliest dressing room I've seen in a long time.
My guess is the 2000's - the mirrored dresser, the leopard print chairs - all scream Hollywood Regency revival from a couple years ago.
Tough to say! That rug is not atypical of 1920's - 40's Nichols Rugs :)
OK, it's the following day. What's the answer?!
Way late to the party, but I just love this room. *My* dog and I would spend lazy Saturdays in it, lounging around, reading, using the laptop. Mwah!
