Hard to believe, because week after week, the majority of voters get the decade right on the money, but this week, a different decade came out on top....

This was a tough one - and (unbelievably because you guys are good!) the majority of the voters didn't get the decade right this time around. 125 voters said the '70s - and it is actually NOW.
It is a room designed by Jonathan Adler, which granted, made it a bit tricky, since the late 20th century definitely influences and informs his work.
53 of you got it right by voting NOW (nice job!), followed by 31 votes for the 60's. The 80's came in fourth, with 15 votes, followed by the 90's and 50's, and the 40's were last with just 2 votes.
Mod Life, Mod Dog and Bepsf all said they knew the photo, but kindly kept the rest of the info to themselves. A few other readers went for NOW based on the eclectic vibe of the room, such as ChrisToronto, DN and PlanItGirl. Alana in Canada said that the color palette tipped her off, and for Maggieann, it was the bamboo chairs and chandelier. The slipper chair was the giveaway for Doppelganger and kimg924.
Thanks to all for playing along!

yeah, see, everyone who said they knew the room pretty much gave away that the room was NOW, which is how i voted after seeing those remarks. guys, please be more discreet if you know the rooms! :-0
This room is featured in Jonathan Adler's book "My Prescription for Anti-Depressive Living"
I highly recommend it - you'll never look at Pink and Green the same way again!
Look at the size of that lamp! I thought it looked large in the original photo--but that play on scale is totally now!
I don't remember which way I voted, though!
This room is so ugly I didn't want to believe it was now.
HA! Bonjour!! Thanks for saying it so I don't have to. I was really hoping this room was quite old. And completely redone since then.
I agree! Gut this room now!
I realized I'd gotten it wrong when I read the Jonathan Adler lighting post earlier today. A few clicks later and I saw the chadelier in his collection.
In defense of all of us who said '70s, this room never should have happened after 1977.
Totally agreed with mdo: it was bad enough in the 70s; indefensible in today's design world!
A totally depressing room. It reminds me of musty shag carpet.
This confirms my distaste for Jonathan Adler stuff.
Jonathan Adler doesn't have an original bone in his body -- this just proves it!
Where are the smoked mirrors and the hanging oil droplet lamp?
And the smell of cigarettes everywhere, too!
8^D
Just to let everyone know, I have collected many vintage design books, and read a lot of design blogs that feature vintage and retro interiors, So just because someone says they know the room, doesn't mean its contemporary.
Oh and by the way, It is a fabulous room! IMHO
I'll add my criticism of this room: the painting is somehow wrong for the space, in terms of scale/ proportion (too square to be over such a short sofa on such a long wall) and color -- the colors seem to work against the rest of the room.
Yup, I'm with bonjourmiette. I thought it looked like now, but so ugly that it was easier (and more comforting) to believe it was the 90s!
I voted for now because:
-there were no such sofas in the '70s -- it is clearly a current sofa;
-those elements -- especially the chinoiserie chairs -- would NEVER have been combined together in the '70s -- it is clearly a reinterpretation of someone's ideas of the '70s. No one ever had such ridiculous animal head sculptures back then.
-Really, there was some GREAT design in the '70s, but this is a tongue-in-cheek kitschy reinterpretation of that era which people (those too young to have lived through it) unfortunately take seriously -- sad to see, because it influences the understanding that young people have of that decade. (if it is not tongue-in-cheek, then it is just really BAD).
There *was* a lot of good design in the '70s, and this room just confuses matters.
This room is just pure unadulterated kitsch.
I think monika1 is right, there was good design in the 70's. It's just that this reminds too many of us of the bad design that was affordable and therefore in everyone's basement. There should be a big ashtray on the table to complete the look.
All I know is that if a stone wall weren't going up in my kitchen even as I write, the one in this picture would make me die of envy. It's all I could see!
I guessed 90s based on the chandelier. Glad I was close.
art: i second that notion
Thank god my parents had (well, have) good taste and I grew up with white walls, hardwood floors and oriental/navajo rugs in the 70s.....
This is like the his work at The Parker Palm Springs, good intentions, but really hideous and dirty. All of the furnishings are ratty and unkept. I can't imagine paying someone to do this on purpose.
I think it's funny reading the folks posts who hate this room...
...but the guy who designed it is the one who's being paid for his design taste.
Good thing there's Ethan Allen and Pottery Barn.
This room reminds me of the smell of mildew...
I myself love many designs from the 70's and have added a few of the 70's influences into my own living room.
However...I'm not a fan of THIS room. The colors, the animal head on the left wall, the dining set, the couch...most everything needs to go. My least favorite thing (besides the color of the couch) is the rug...DEFINITELY needs to go!
"Good Lord! I'd die if I had to live there!"
I remember reading that quote ...
...but the guy who designed it is the one who's being paid for his design taste.
That doesn't mean it automatically should be held up as good design. You sound like that Mr Show sketch...
