Remember several years ago when we showed you the room Gwyneth Paltrow designed for her daughter Apple? We heard lots of comments from folks, both fans and critics alike. Now a mama to two kids, Gwyneth recently shared photos of Apple and Moses' shared room.

Gwyneth worked with interior designer Annette Joseph to create this beautiful space in her temporary Nashville apartment. Yes folks, this is a temporary space only for the family while Gwyneth is filming there.
We love everything from the purple bunkbeds to the chalkboard wall to the grey couch. Take a close look at the small table there - it's a Target find we wrote up last year and have always loved.
You can see more photos of Gwyneth's awesome, albeit temporary, digs at her website GOOP.

White Enamel Flatwa...
lovely. great idea to place the bunk bed right by the chalkboard wall. I knew I should've sprung for that target table when I had the chance.
Aarrgghh, chalk dust all over the bedding - not good!
I think this is a temporary apartment for the family while on location and not their permanent residence. Still a pleasant and friendly room :-)
Gwyneth--hook me up with your discount. I want those $3700 bunk beds for $1000, too. And the extra $100 off the sofa would also be nice. Don't they have someone fact checking over at goop?
I don't care how rich you are, I think it's pretty lame and conspicuously consumptive to use an interior designer for temporary digs. Throw something together like the rest of us poor slobs!
Celebrities (not all, I'm sure) just get used to having people do things for them. I frankly think they forget how to do things for themselves, and their first knee jerk reaction is to hire someone. I guess it makes for more jobs for others...
@mirnada: You might be right, but it's also a question of time. Many CEO or other high-level employees simply don't have time to buy their milk, so if they want their milk someone else has to buy it. That's why they have insane salaries, but personally I'd rather buy my milk myself and have time for my family; don't want to have regrets on my death bed.
As far as the decoration goes, I think it's kind of insane to pay those amounts for a temporary home. Nicely put together though.
1. The professional re-design of her temporary apartment was possibly a perk negotiated by an agent when closing her deal for the film, not something she demanded or had to request herself.
2. If she did request it, why not? If it was within my power, I would do the same in her situation. Relocating is hard, physically and emotionally, especially on families. Why not do everything in your means to make your temp home warm and beautiful and comfortable?
3. The amount spent to redesign it...again, probably a point negotiated by her peeps. She is one of the best at what she does. Why wouldn't they want her to feel happy and at home while she's away? And if she had to spend her own $ to do it, why not?
Just don't think we should knock her for creating a beautiful home away from home for her family.
What do they do when she is done filming? Can I have their stuff? ;)
Golly, why so negative? Be nice to Gwyneth and her kiddos, she's a Mom too, even though she's got a gazillion bucks... so what?!
If someone else had posted it, y'all would be inspired by some of the choices as I am. I love the simplicity of the modern space. Fun and creative.
I concur, amandabryce! Please send all items to the Hillmans in FL, as well. All kind donations will be gladly accepted!! :)
I'm loving the small stools at the kids table. Anyone have an idea on a source?
Don't be a Gwyneth-hater. I was actually wondering why it was so sparse.
A friend was an RA at an Ivy League and says that on freshman moving day several kids on her floor had decorators come and style their rooms. Decorators need rich people to be their customers.
Yeah she's loaded, but at least her kids are sharing a room.
I might just paint the boys ikea mydal bunkbed when it gets older...it's already got some "artwork."
I love it. Great use of space. What a wonderful home away from home!
Great space, but I'm not a fan of chalk dust all over the bedding, and of kids sleeping right up against the dust. Cute idea, in theory.
Sheesh! I think this is a pretty down-to-earth bedroom for celeb kids, albeit temporary. And how cool is it that they're sharing a bedroom? We used to have 3 bedrooms (before we had kids!) and I assumed our kids would each have their own when they came. I didn't realize we were going to be relocating to a super expensive city; now we have two bedrooms and two kids - so of course they double up. I'm so grateful for it, too. They get along so well with each other and have a blast in the same room. So I'm glad to see other kids experiencing this great benefit!
i love gwyneth and this space is super cute! :D
.... i don't really understand why they renovated a space just while she is filming though~ i work in film too, we lease furnished places that are cozy and comfortable while we are away from home. why bother buying new things that you'll just have to get rid of? seems unnecessary. love you though gwyneth!!!
Some of these comments are so negative. People leave her alone.
I think this room is super cute, has lots of interesting raw elements that add character to a space. I love the neutral palette with the splash of the purple bunk bed. The textures are great too.
It's probably a PR move to get the Target table in there so that poor people can relate ;)
I do love the room though ;)
I love it... but anyone who puts a bed against a chalkboard doesn't actually make said bed.
If she's had a temporary space done and happens to 'share it' I doubt she's paid for much of it, more likely the designer and manufacturers would pay to be featured in Gwyneth's kids room.
Whatever the motivation i think she's incredibly stylish and her kids are very lucky.
Whatever the reasons for doing it this way, who really cares? It's a cool space with lots of creative ideas. (And expensive furniture to envy.)
It looks like a complete gut-and-remodel, done in just 10 days, including everything from drywall to tile to cabinets to kids' toys. Frankly, I'm fascinated by their process---as described on the GOOP site by the designer herself.
I'm guessing that the pricing shown is based on the designer's relationship with vendors.
What's with all the tall poppy syndrome? Heaven forbid Gwynneth & Chris spend a little money on hiring a decorator to create a beautiful, calm space for thier children while they're temporarily living there..thats downwright abandonment!
It's beautiful, not overly lavish & the kids are sharing a room...like "the rest of us poor slobs".
I agree with the comments about the chalk wall being by the bed I think that is just asking for future respitory issues. I kind of think the bunk beds would look nicer in a robins egg blue too.
It's a beautiful room. Simple as that. I love the simplicity and the punch of color from the bunk beds. As to those criticizing someone for what they have or don't have. Get off your high horses. Enjoy this for what it is.
Isn't it good for the community that she is filming in that she gave a job to a decorator and the contractors who did the labor in the apartment?
I'm of two minds about this space. If it's just for the kids sleeping and napping, then it seems very restful (if you're into gray.) But from the furniture, it's probably also meant to be a play space, and bright colors stimulate childrens' minds and imaginations. Also, where's the reading lamps?
Many CEO or other high-level employees simply don't have time to buy their milk, so if they want their milk someone else has to buy it. That's why they have insane salaries,
There's lots of people working two or three minimum wage jobs who don't have time to buy their milk, and they don't have money to pay someone else to buy it. They figure out a way to get it done.
The reason CEOs have insane salaries isn't because they work so hard. Lots of people work hard. It's much, much, much more complicated than that.
And who cares if Paltrow hires a designer to set up her temporary home? She likes things to look nice, and is able to pay other people to make them look really nice. Okay. Just please spare me sycophantic "she's helping the community" nonsense. We don't have to be grateful to people who paid other people a fair wage for honest work. She doesn't deserve a medal for buying a luxury service,a the same way she doesn't deserve to get beat up over it.
I think if any of you had as much money as GP you would do exactly the same thing.
Think about it--you're a Mom, but you're also an actor. Your schedule is hectic, and although a lot of luxuries fall your way, your main goal is to spend time with your kids and make sure their celebrity lives are as comfortable and close to normal as possible.
Also--by hiring an Interior Designer, GP actually saved money on the furnishings themselves. (Designers buy at a discount) Although she had to pay the design fees, this transfer of responsibility gives her the opportunity to spend more time with her kids.
You also have to remember that she can't just walk into target like the rest of us--she'd be bombarded at the door. You all know that if you saw her in the checkout line you'd be taking pictures of her with your smartphones and posting them all over your facebook.
The comments about chalk dust in the bed is hilarious to me, seeings as though with Apple's BR review everyone uttered "where are her toys?! white carpets?! children are messy"! Will nothing make you critics happy?!
The space is adorable. Love the chalkboard wall. Kudos, Annette Joseph GP!
i think it's cute. i don't like the idea of chalk dust in bed, but the room is cute. i love the throw pillows on the sofa.
who cares if she has someone else design her room? maybe she doesn't enjoy designing/decorating rooms. that's why there are people in different careers because they enjoy doing different things. i pay someone to change my oil, wash my car, do my landscaping, etc. i don't like doing it myself! so what?!?!!?
sheesh... it's either a cute room, or it isn't... period
I love the look of it...especially the juxtaposition of the fluffy rugs with the overall more industrial feel.
I think it's fair that if you're being relocated to ANOTHER COUNTRY for months at a time with your whole family, that you'd want a comfortable, nice home to stay in. I don't fault her for that at all.
The only thing that seems a bit off to me is why they found some place that needed SO much work, instead of settling on a comparable space that maybe only needed decorating, instead of decorating AND remodeling?
But whatever. Gorgeous space. Well done!
I love this room. Its simple and playful. The chalkboard beside the bed would be so much fun for a child and who cares about the mess.
Lovely job!
Some companies pay their employers for relocation and often they just give them the money and don't care how they are used. Also furniture can be rented, returned to the store, sold...
We really don't know the whole story but I do like the space.
I like the bunk bed, but otherwise the room seems very cold to me. All that gray--I hate gray in houses, especially in kids rooms. And I would bet that Apple is too big for that Target table by now, it's small, appropriate for toddlers. All I can see are art materials and a few stuffed animals, no other toys--I realize this is a temporary accommodation, but we take more toys just to go away for the weekend.
The rug in the first picture looks like a sandbox.
Bravo mckate! My sentiments exactly.
it's a lovely room but I'm always in a dilemma:
I like beautiful places and spending money at my own means to make my spaces nicer...
but then I'm a mom and I can't help thinking this money I spent could have been used towards greater causes for children that are not as lucky as mine.
GP has style and the means but I hope she just doesn't waste all this energy and money for temporary kids room to feature on her site.
My solution: I try to donate to non-profits more every year to compensate for my guilt of loving cute things.
That bedroom is so depressing. That much gray would make me want to smack my head against the wall just to add some color.
I think these rooms are calming, and I think the gray is cozy. I painted my son's room gray, too, and I think it really works. Tons of space for play too--nothing is too precious not to be thrown across the room.
I also think that it's nice she posted these. It was all so normal and tasteful!
One question--why do people feel the need to slam her for using a decorator? What's the big deal?
I also think the room is really cold. Change out that table and it would be a great teen room!
I like it. Though wouldn't it be fabulous if they'd MADE that bed?
That bed -- those beds, actually -- are made.
There is, in my mind, a great nobility in being poor(ish) and still having a beautiful, personal home. Rich people who have great houses has never blown my mind, because it seems expected.
That being said, if I had the scratch, I'd probably get help with some things that I DIY now. Having been poor once, I hope I'd maintain my pioneer spirit, but with better quality stuff.
Real life or photo op? Cute room, great colors, but, do not try this at home. From my personal experience growing up sleeping on bunk beds, I would never recommend a room design (in particular the chalk board) that tempts a child to stand on the top bunk...
my first thought was 'doesn't she live in a mansion in london? why would her kids need to share a room?' but this is temp home. its actually a nice idea to do that for the family, especially if you can afford it.
Such a sweet room. There are pros and cons, sure but I love it when kids get to share a room, even if temporarily. It gives them a space to create lots of wonderful memories (and maybe learn from a few disagreements at the same time!).
Though I would warn against putting a bed next to a chalkboard wall. We painted a door in our kitchen with chalkboard paint and we're constantly sweeping up chalk dust. It's okay on the tile floors but I can't imagine it being fun to sleep in.
The snippy resentment is like the yearbook club talking about what a slut the prom queen is.
I hire people to do a lot of tasks I don't either don't have time to do or want to do. So what? Whether I do it because I'm working virtuously and furiously or because I would prefer to spend the time at the spa is irrelevant. It gets the thing done and transfers money from me to people who presumably would rather have the money than not do the task. Everyone wins.
Grow up.
It's fascinating to me that every time a celebrity or wealthy person has a room posted on this site, 50% of the posters turn green with envy and are unable to refrain from posting judgements about the room owner's lifestyle and personal values.... It's a room. That's it. It represents nothing beyond identifying the individual's aesthetics.
To me, it's a cute room. Perhaps a bit too dull and colorless for a kid's room, but nice none the less. I love ultra-modern decor, but in my opinion, it's a smidge too stark for children. Kids love color and fun.....
There are MUCH more polished, MUCH higher budget nurseries and kids rooms posted ALL THE TIME on Ohdeedoh, and nary a yelp.
But, attribute a fairly low-key room to a celebumom, and all hell breaks loose.
I'm with d,c & s and elvedon.
Hi, I'm not envious at all. I think it's funny that every time someone posts a negative opinion about a celebrity, they're automatically jealous.
Grow up.
Oh, I agree that you are entitled to a negative opinion about a celebrity's room just like you're entitled to a negative opinion about a non-celebrity's room. So if you want to post something negative about the design of this room or any other, go right ahead.
But your post really had nothing to do with the room. Your post was about how employing a designer to put buy furniture and put together a room for your kids while you're in a temporary home is tacky because everyone should do what you do--e.g., "throw something together like the rest of us poor slobs." That's childish. As sad as it may be for the world, not everyone is you.
I admire people who have a talent for design and who put together amazing rooms. Sometimes these people put together rooms in their own homes--that's cool, and makes me think, "Damn, I wish I could do that." Sometimes these people put together rooms in someone else's home. That's cool too, and makes me feel slightly less sheepish about myself. But if we are going to make this a blog about the comparative virtues of different socioeconomic classes, count me out.
Not sure about the beds being right up to the blackboard wall but love the idea of giving such a large canvas to encourage imagination and art.
wow. This thread makes me thankful I'm not a celebrity. All these judgemental twats would drive me crazy!
It's a fantastic temp space for kids. Period.
I can't imagine that the chalk wall (nice looking as it is) would be good for the respiratory system. We inhale many airborne particles while sleeping.
if I had someone to clean up the mess each day (twice a day most likely), I'd have a wall-size chalkboard too!!
I like that she had a space created that was theirs. Uprooting a family temporarily is a big deal, and if you have the money and resources to make it easier, why not?
It's so nice to see this room, after Apple's, which I didn't see as very "kid-y". This is much more kid-friendly and I think it's great for siblings to share rooms - even if there are endless rooms for them to inhabit!
I'm in the beginning stages of re-doing the boys room, and think I may borrow many ideas from this room! ('cept maybe the chalkboard wall!)
Remember, Gwyneth grew up like this: temporarily switching abodes because of mom's career. And she shared a room with her brother, at least sometimes, at an age when she was older than her daughter is now. (And I suspect she therefore may feel that sharing a room is comforting when you are in a strange place for not so long.) I'm sure that she wanted things already done -- walls painted, furniture in place -- when Apple and Moses arrived, and sought help to get it accomplished expediently.
THat said, I cannot, @bequirrely, "Be nice" to her because "she's a Mom too". SInce when does being a mother rate her more deference or respect?
Anybody know where to get those metal stools?
