Big Ass Fan recently debuted the Haiku, a ceiling fan they deem as the quietest and most energy efficient fan in the world. An award winning motor delivers silent operation, and because each fan is individually balanced, it won't wobble or rattle.

Available in bamboo (caramel or cocoa finishes) and matrix composite (black or white), the Haiku uses 80% less energy than conventional ceiling fans. According to Big Ass Fan:
The average ENERGY STAR® residential fan utilizes 65 W of electrical input power. In contrast, Haiku fans only use 2 to 30 W, exceeding the ENERGY STAR requirements for watts per CFM by 450 to 750%. In a typical year, Haiku would use about 50kWh, for a cost of around $5.
The Haiku is not available yet, but they are taking pre-orders.

I have to ask, how can the dining area depicted be used?
Elaine, I thought the same thing. I'm hoping it's just the perspective used that's making it look like the chairs can't be pulled out.
Its a nice fan but IMHO the Eco-Fan line from Midway are just about as efficient and now match a variety of decors since the introduction of the original super-efficient fan the Midway Eco. Nothing came close to these fans until now.
it's just optical illusion. actually there are space behind the chairs but in this photo it looks like the platform is the same height as the chairs but actually it is a lot lower
Oh, yes, I get it now, thanks.
I think I am in love with this fan, but it's annoying that it isn't actually for sale and there is no pricing information. C'mon, BAFco. Don't be a tease.
There are so few minimal/modern fan designs out there, particularly if you are looking for one that is scaled for a small room/low ceiling. Or if you don't want an aluminum finish. Also, not wanting to spend $400+. I know because I've been looking for over a year!
Thank you Tao_Geneva and KTS911 for the explanation about perspective in this picture. I had visions of people climbing over the table to get to their chairs! Oh, and the fan is lovely too.
Price?
$845 for composite (black/white), $1045 for the bamboo ones.
I found out these have 2 WHITE logos right in the center of the fan! White on black "haiku" and the big ass logo (which is thankfully a donkey, not text). And a little glass "eye" with LED lights in them that turn on when you change speeds. Those details just ruin the whole look of this otherwise spectacular design.
The MinkaAir Wing at $700 is looking much better.
$800 for a fan! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Pardon me. Let me collect myself.
