Half & Half: New Painted Furniture Trend?

We've written quite a bit about color dipped furniture — you know, the thing where you paint the legs of a chair (or desk, or dresser, or what have you) so it looks like it's wearing little furniture socks. But what if you prefer something a little more attention-getting, a little more ambitious (or you just can't decide between two different finishes)? You could try this half-and-half look.

The chair pictured above comes from the Etsy shop of 508 Restoration and Design — this particular chair has sold, but you could re-create the look yourself with an old chair, some glossy paint, and some very, very careful taping.

And then there's this table from German maker qip home, which takes the half and half look to a whole new level. They call this table 'granny', but I think I might have called it Jekyll and Hyde — one table, two very different personalities. Therein lies the appeal of this style, at least to me — I've always loved the mix of modern and antique furnishings in a room, but what about mixing antique and modern in the same piece? This table plays with that convention a little bit, with the more intricate legs on the 'modern' side. Of course, this is a piece that is ready made with different materials on either side, but it doesn't mean you can't replicate the look at home by painting an old table and switching out legs.

What do you think? Is this a look you'd love to recreate?
