Half Pint Salvage is an Etsy shop that sells useful household items designed and assembled from reclaimed wood and fixtures. The designs often play to the natural wear and distress of the materials used. Typographic, color and compositional elements result in beautiful modern new pieces.
Half Pint Salvage has already had some very well-deserved attention from us here at Re-Nest, including posts featuring chalkboards and wall hooks. But The Handmade Home is really about the story behind the product line. So here is a little more about creator Karl Topee.
Five years ago Karl decided to add some style to the living room of a great apartment, otherwise lacking in any personal touches. He built a TV stand from a retro wooden TV cabinet he added a shelf and fitted an old window as the cabinet door and painted it green. Now the centerpiece of his living room, Karl credits this piece with the start of Half Pint Salvage as a business. Continued inspiration for this line comes the that moment of seeing an item in the salvage yard and knowing in an instant how it will be used.
Blending color, typography and finding unexpected uses for hardware are what really make these items unique and appealing. You can pick up your own through the Half Pint Salvage Etsy shop and at various Seattle-area craft markets.
Living green, in regards to decorating your space, often implies sacrificing style in favor of functionality. But it doesn't have to be that way. Finding the perfect handmade item that represents your unique personality and taste, may just be the spark your inner creative self needs. My ultimate goal with Half Pint Salvage has always been to ignite that spark—and keep it red hot
