With Halloween just around the corner, it seems only appropriate to cast our eye for color to one of the most evocative combinations of the palette - black and orange. A pairing, I'll admit, about which I've always been a little leery...until now.
It takes a fine hand to combine these two colors well; with one wrong step, one can be pitched off the road of smooth sophistication into the thorny bramble of kitsch. As with most things, it's all about proportion. Done well, the results can be fantastic: black's inky drama acts as an elegant counterpoint to orange's abundant energy. However, when the two are used in equal measure and the palette is absent of another "breather" color (such as white), trouble may ensue. Instead of a striking everyday space, one's black and orange room could end up being more trick that treat...
What do you think of black and orange interiors? Have you ever used this color combination yourself? What guidelines do you think should be followed in order for it to be successful?
