It takes a fine hand to combine these two colors well; with one wrong step, one can be pitched off the road of smooth sophistication into the thorny bramble of kitsch. As with most things, it's all about proportion. Done well, the results can be fantastic: black's inky drama acts as an elegant counterpoint to orange's abundant energy. However, when the two are used in equal measure and the palette is absent of another "breather" color (such as white), trouble may ensue. Instead of a striking everyday space, one's black and orange room could end up being more trick that treat...
What do you think of black and orange interiors? Have you ever used this color combination yourself? What guidelines do you think should be followed in order for it to be successful?

My bedroom is black, orange, and gray. I never thought I'd like those colors in my bedroom, but it works!
I, too, never thought I'd like those colors but done well it can look really classy. I like that the photos demonstrate how this combo can be used in every decorating style.
At one point there was a lot of orange and black in the living room, with a lot of green, golden yellow, and white. It felt like being in a garden, and I liked it but, clearly, that palette's not for every one.
I think I'm officially over the arty animal head/antlers on the wall thing.
LOL......yes, been seeing A LOT of arty animal head/antlers later
Does anyone know where I could find that lovely basket on legs/ magazine stand is in the first image?
My living room is black and white with a bit of orange. I love this combination as long as the orange isn't too dominant.
I like the basket on legs too! Please, somebody post a source for it...and the couch in the first pic as well?!
That deer head is awesome.....!!!!
