Just as my winter holiday decor never involves red-and-green, I can't get into the traditional Halloween orange-and-black color scheme. But this! Peony, ivory, and almost-black navy are devilishly delightful.
With colors this pretty (from Little Dwell for ReadyMade), I would put up my Halloween decorations the 1st of October, and only take them down reluctantly once the day has passed. I probably won't get my act together in time for this Halloween, but I plan on stocking up on supplies in this color palette for next year: tissue paper, crepe paper, streamers, ribbon, metallic craft paper, etc. All cheap, all perfect for easy garlands and more.
Do you have a favorite sophisticated Halloween color combination? How do you use it?

Very cute, but not Halloweeny to me at all! It's one thing to avoid red and green, and I HATE orange and black so I refuse to decorate for Halloween, but this doesn't somehow set a Halloween mood. I feel like part of Halloween is embracing the kitsch.
But very cute nonetheless!
Since my primary decorating scheme is black, white, and bright grass green, I just add orange -- that takes me through Thanksgiving, when I switch it out for bright red! But this is a gorgeous set of colors.
my favorite halloween colors are Black, White, and Kraft. I also like making garlands, etc. out of old dictionary pages, and accent with deep and bring oranges.
I can't help it, and my house has been decorated since Sept 15th!
its nice but i dont see how it reads Halloween.
I love Halloween and agree with threeacres that what I love about the holiday is the kitsch. In our home... <B>its glittery skulls, glow in the dark skeletons, bats with ruby eyes hanging from the eves, lit up pumpkins and ghosts. sometimes a little creepy is good! especially when faced with upcoming Thanksgiving... IMO that holiday is totally fake and boring.
Really gorgeous colors together, but I have to agree...not Halloweenie. The "traditional" color of Halloween- black and orange just symbolize the holiday so well for me. Black for the long dark, cool nights and orange, well, obviously for the changing leaves, pumpkins and that gorgeous moon rising at night.
Halloween is by far my favorite holiday.
I agree with most of the comments above. Those colors are somewhat fallish, but I don't see halloween. For it to *really* read halloween, we've either got to have the orange, black and silver colors, or the standard bats, skulls and pumpkin type of shapes in other shades. I just can't see doing away with both.
I don't know about Halloween, but I love the navy/salmon/ivory/silver mix. I'm figuring colors for my spare bedroom...
I think it's a beautiful color scheme and I can see where it might read as Halloween. However, it seems like this would be the Halloween decor of someone who lives in a DESIGNED house were no one can sit or move a vase. The kind of place where you feel sorry for children because they must always have their hair perfect and never track mud into the hallway. It would be wonderful for a stylish couple but not so great for children with sticky fingers, silly faces and big messes.
On the other hand, I'd love to use this color scheme to decorate my house, just not to accent Halloween. It is a lovely and easy-to-live with palette. Thanks for showing it to us.
As a lifelong fan of horror films I can only vaguely see how these colors say "Halloween." Maybe it would help to show how the other decorations in this palette tie in to this.
Nobody is morally obliged to decorate for any given holiday, but it seems to me that if you are in any way embracing the holiday, it makes sense to be SOMEWHAT traditional or nobody else will recognize what you are doing. (Assuming you decorate for guests and family more than yourself alone.)
My home's Halloween decor is limited to some of those realistic electric fake jack-o-lanterns and only on the front porch for the week of the holiday. Not a big Halloween fan, although I have a friend who is insane for the holiday! (And we have decorations up in the public library where I work already, it being a public building and all...)
I do more for "Christmas" (in the non-religious version of the holiday) because I love the glitz -- and I do use non-traditional colors a lot, but since they are in traditional formats (balls, ornaments, on a tree...) it still reads as the seasonal holiday to people.
Obviously, you can do what you like, but tradition has it's uses...
I agree that these colors don't really speak to Halloween for me at all. Maybe salmon and chocolate brown, or red with charcoal. They also read well for a fall backdrop.
The silver and lavender are completely lost on me.
My friends and I are Halloween obsessed. We've all had Halloween themed weddings. Mine was the traditional orange and black. One had red and black. Another friend did pink and grey. So I can see it working. She had white pumpkins and sort of a shabby chic/baroque thing. It was lovely but the overall feel was much more stuffier. Like a previous commenter said "However, it seems like this would be the Halloween decor of someone who lives in a DESIGNED house were no one can sit or move a vase."
I can't tell you how much it means to me that you all were able to disagree with me so diplomatically, tactfully, and friendly-y. I love it! To show my appreciation, I'm going to try to put together a little (non-Halloween) home design feature using this palette. Let me know if you already have any favorite items in these colors, and *please* let me know if you happen upon a dress in this color combination. Because I need it. Thanks!
"Vintage Halloween" is what these colors remind me of.......
.....like a faded Halloween greeting card from long ago.
I like it.
I LOVE Halloween, but HATE bright orange and black together.
Love this colour scheme and would love to use this idea as decoration any time of year!
