Here's another one for the kiddies: the trick was to make something whimsical in a room for a new baby, please the guests when it doubles as a spare room, and not look like dining room wallpaper.
There is an Art Deco element to the architecture of the room, and our first idea was actually pink tent stripes over a pink ground, but we nixed that idea after our samples looked too much like a candy store or set design. Then we alighted upon the idea of butterflies.
The flowers part of this is a creamy silver, which shimmers slightly and hovers in one's peripheral vision. The pink is steely Calamine from Farrow&Ball. I don't like pink unless I love it--see my French Riviera posts on Riviera Pastels--and in this instance it seemed to be what the room wanted. Add butterflies at will and stir gently...
Colors Used:

This is gorgeous. And I usually am not a pink person! I'll stay in your spare room any day.
Ditto SUNSWEET.
Just to be devils advocate: Spare room for the ladies only. (?). Do the men like this too? Still a beautiful space and hand painted. WOW.
I'm usually not a pink person either--in rooms, but the color is growing on me and it is supposed to be not only soothing, but make everyone's skin look lovely. I love the butterflies and could care less if anyone thinks it is cliche. This is really beautiful--love the hand painting....so pretty.
I'm glad to see a room sized 'sample' of F&B calamine. It looks odd in the fandeck, but I've always been attracted to it. I think it's lovely on the wall, and the flower/trees are wonderful.
Actually the same design would work on lots of colors. I'd try celadon. Very nice!
Yes, men like this too. We don't have any gene that makes out eyes and brains appreciate only forest green, brown, and burgundy. Resist sexism in all its forms...
I'm a dude and I love this idea. Kudos.
I'm not usually big on pink, but this is a lovely, soft, subdued pink. I could see this color combination and pattern looking good in all kinds of rooms -- a dining room nook, a bedroom, an office, a bathroom ...
This is simply stunning! I really DO want to try that at home :)
