Wolfie & The Sneak has us taken care of. A craft paper-covered table was fine for the tiny (2 guests) dinner party (sandwiches!) I recently held, but Thanksgiving demands a little something special, like Hand Turkey Place Mats! With pretty, pretty feathers to color! I am so impressed with this idea, it almost makes me wish I was hosting Thanksgiving. But of course, I'd rather just be a guest, free to sip wine and color to my heart's content.
(I also LOVE these elegant color-yourself placemats that I'm planning on buying for my favorite 11-year old. And kraft paper always works!)

Informal lettering can be beautiful if follows certain well established rules. When the rules are flouted (as seen in these place mats), the result is, well, underwhelming.
Perhaps the availability of high tech tools has made us lazy and insensitive to the old crafts that brought warmth and beauty into the world of our ancestors.
