Throw pillows add instant character to a space and can be switched out on a whim with the trends. This is good news for anyone who likes instant gratification or who can't commit to a style. For even more drama (with no obligation), upgrade your pillows with handmade accessories like crochet flower brooches.
Inspired by the adorable pillows in Leslye's library, we started thinking about customizing pillows. Just like adding the finishing touch of jewelry to an outfit, accessorizing throw pillows can add another layer of interest to a room. It doesn't even take a stitch of sewing skills to simply pin costume jewelery or a felt flower brooch to a store bought pillow.
The craftier home owner might make a pillow cover from a yard of great fabric, like the red and white print Leslye used from Mod Green Pod. Beautiful handmade felt or crochet appliques are available on Etsy and can be hand stitched to a pillow for a unique look. We also love this tutorial from Purl Bee which details making embroidered fabric covered buttons. A smattering of these delicate buttons on a pillow would be oh-so-charming.
Crochet flowers, felt appliques, sparkly brooches, and dainty buttons. . . oh my! What else could you use to adorn a plain pillow?

I love me some vintage needlepoint pillows, but these cross the line into cluttery/twee. No thanks!
love those large crochet flowers. does anyone know what made them so big? lots of rounds or chunky yarn? or both?
Let's take the throw pillow and make it uncomfortably functionless by applying completely hideous and unnecessary decoration... Oh no wait, that's a completely stupid idea!!!
seriously?
I like the felt ones, but pillow brooches? Seems a bit odd, I guess. But maybe to spiff up dull curtains?
Looking at these makes me sneeze.
I would love the pattern for the flowers! I've scoured Ravelry.com and can't find them. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you!!
Sorry, the big crochet ones at the top of the post.
i picture myself falling asleep on the couch with my face smooshed into one of these, and the heinous imprint it would make.... aaargh. Gratuitous pillow decorations FTL.

Perfect for girls aged 5 to 8. This should be under your children posts, where it belongs.
I could see the crochet flowers being used on cushions like that and working... but it would only be in very specific styled decor settings. Certainly not for everyone, but in the right setting they'd be rather charming.
Actually I could see them being used on items other than cushions and perhaps even being put to better use in that. Or maybe I'm just a sucker for making things as dynamic as possible. Either way, cute for what they are!
