Los Angeles designer David Okum is one whose work we've been keeping our eyes on: the seamless organic form of the Okum Desk hinting of Japanese Magewappa bent wood work; his LED overhead lighting merging illuminating efficiency with an inviting textural element,; an interlocking flatpack pet bed inspired by a hardy and humble intertidal creature offers small cats and dogs a cubby of comfort. Okum's work invites the finger to trace along the lines of his designs, perhaps no more so than his latest collection of handmade home office and home accessories...
The Made Collection is composed of four pieces, spanning from the desk, walls, kitchen, and tabletop:
The V-Tray family was created from the desire to keep desktops free of clutter. The bowl can be used for paper clips, the large tray fits pens and pencils easily. Available in American Walnut and Hard White Maple. Finished in water-based polyurethane clear coat that preserves the natural tone of the wood.
The Paddle Coathook makes for a beautiful, truly understated and unobtrusive design that looks even better when just hanging there. Made available in American Walnut and Hard White Maple. Finished in water-based polyurethane clear coat that preserves the natural tone of the wood. (coathooks come in a set of 3, brass screw hardware included).
The SQ Trivet begins as extruded aircraft grade aluminum, bent using very basic processes interpreted to maximize the material and form. Edge bending serves to raise hot pots higher, absorb less heat and add a geometric sharpness, while using less material. Polished to a matte-sheen, this trivet is an ideal size for just about any pot or pan on your table.
The S&P Shakers are made from the highest grade lumber and durable Corian. Salt and pepper shakers will always have a place at the dining table, by using long lasting materials and an understated refined design the S&P Shakers are made to last. Made available in American Walnut and Hard White Maple. Finished in water-based polyurethane clear coat that preserves the natural tone of the wood.
The Made Collection has launched for crowd-sourcing support over at Kickstarter with an estimated May 2013 availability if fully funded, with a $35 investment getting you either the S&P Shakers or SQ Trivet, $45 or more a Paddle Coathook, and my personal favorite, the V Tray & Bowl requiring a $60 or more investment.
