I spotted these DIY shelves a couple of days ago and have been taking them apart with my eyes ever since. The warm wood and sleek metal mounted onto that awesome concrete wall has me drooling, and judging by how many books are piled on them, they must be incredibly strong. Dying for more details about how they're made, I contacted the homeowner.

Geninne Zlatkis posted these photos at her blog with a casual mention that her husband, Manola, made them. Clearly, she had no idea the obsession she would cause among DIY types like me. After a couple of fevered emails, she told me that he mounted them to the wall with 2" aluminum brackets that are hidden under the shelves. She also mentioned that she and her husband have built 5 houses from scratch in the past 10 years. One of them was actually a Fall Colors Contest Winner back in '06! Obviously, Manolo knows his way around a toolbox. Pop over to Geninne's Art Blog to have a look for yourself and to petition Manolo for a full blown tutorial.
