Location: Yorkville - New York, New York
In order to live in Manhattan my fiancé and I downsized significantly from a one bedroom cottage in Connecticut to this tiny studio in Yorkville, which is 280 square feet.
Due to the way our apartment is configured – between the built-in bookcases beneath the windows, the fireplace mantle, and the radiator – we were unable to have a bed and a couch. Ultimately, we chose to have a bed, which is positioned like a daybed and doubles as a very high and very deep couch during the day.
This was the first and only apartment we looked at and we chose it mainly because of its location, but also because of its charm (e.g. built-in bookcases, fireplace mantle, it is located in a brownstone). The apartment also has a separate kitchen, which is pretty rare for a NYC studio.
Although we had to give up a ton of space and put majority of our belongings in storage, all in all, we really do love our little studio. It might be home for now, but it will forever be the place where we got engaged, as well as the place where we lived throughout our engagement.
