Look at the difference upholstery makes! Back in June, Maxwell posted the news that
Carl Hansen & Son was releasing Hans Wegner's Ch445 Wing Chair for the first time. The image above is from the recent
NYT Style Magazine and the upholstery is
Optik by Vernor Panton...
Sometimes it takes a visual reminder to realize true potential. The chair is also available through
Room & Board. What fabrication/color/texture would you use?

I love it in a more vibrant color (versus the gray) but the $4000 price tag means there is no way I will ever own one :(
Every time I see something like this (a simple, elegant design that simply can't cost that much to make, unless the upholstery is made from the hair of mermaid virgins), I wonder why there isn't a furniture company that REALLY strives to make beautiful, mid-century-inspired designs that are affordable.
Maybe that's where I'll make my first million.
May, please do!! I wonder the same darn thing myself. I'm not looking for egg chair knock-offs or anything, but if somebody could make pieces like this - simple modern forms, metal legs, MCM-inspired without being exact replicas - I'd be all over it. I'm even willing to pay $1000-$1500 for a really great armchair similar to this, which should still allow room for somebody to make a profit even on a very well-constructed piece. I'm all for paying for quality, but there is still a price point for me where I just feel like it is ridiculous and start to wonder what the heck you're actually paying for (unless, as you stated, it is stuffed with the hair of mermaid virgins thus justifying the expense.)
Oh... If only I could afford one.
Another example of creating exclusivity for the rich. While I am sure it is constructed to the highest standard, the profit margin is astronomical.
Though it's off-thread here's a wrench in the gears of price equaling quality...
The jist: new Eames LCW chairs are cheaper than the old ones.

Damn! Where's my sugar-daddy when I need him? :P
Julian... Not to stay off topic, but that is quite depressing. I have had my eye on a pair of red LCWs for a while. I think my mind has been made up for me... Thanks!
