Happy Birthday LA!

Happy Birthday LA!

atla-090408-hbla.jpgOnly a few days after our own, Los Angeles is having a birthday though, at 227, it's considerably older than us. Blame it on its relative youth, but Los Angeles is not a sentimental city. Like the movie business for which it's well-known (though the aerospace industry apparently employs more people), it's a city that won't hesitate for a nanosecond before going in for a face lift...

We've lost some of our favorite buildings (Israeli Discount Bank, anyone?); in our neighborhood alone, four buildings have been razed to make way for luxury condominiums, and others are within a hair's breath of the wrecking ball. While we love our adopted city, we sometimes wish it had just the tiniest bit of hesitation before going under the bulldozer. Read the full lecture the city gets in today's LA Times. What about you? What do you love about LA? What drives you crazy? What do you wish for LA in the future?
