Q: I recently bought the Tord Boontje "Garland" lamp, which I've wanted for years. But I didn't realize it's a plug-in pendant lamp — I was looking for a regular ceiling lamp, since that's what I'm replacing. Do you think the shade would work on a pendant lamp base? And if yes, can you recommend a plain (and not too expensive) one?

You can hard wire your gorgeous new purchase to the ceiling wires after simply cutting off the plug. It would be less risky to use a Hemma or some cable and socket from the hardware store instead cutting your lamp up. I have hard wired Ikea Hemma cord sets in every room of my house, it's easy. Good luck!
You can hard wire it very easily. If you don't know how to do it, call an electrician. It would take about 30 minutes to do.
This blogger has a great step by step to hardwire your plug-in: http://www.mommywords.com/2010/09/how-to-hardwire-a-plugin-light-fixture/
