Name(s): Harper (3 months)
Location: Carlsbad, CA
Division: Single
Room Size: 75
Tip for Living Small with Kids: We got wall to wall bookshelves from Ikea and put extensions on them to maximize height and storage with the look ao a built in at a fraction of the cost. the shelves are only 13'' deep so they dont take up any of the rooms precious floor space. We also got a hanging "canoe" crib from Etsy that doesn't take up floor space and can easily be moved from room to room on ceiling hooks.
Biggest Design Challenge in this Room: Keeping the room from looking cluttered by maximizing storage.
Favorite Thing About This Room: The stripes! At first we were worried it would look like you were inside the cat in the hat! But the bookshelf and pictures layered on helped soften the look. We love the cozy library feel the room has.
Thanks for your entry Lauren and good luck!

I like this space a lot.
Are those Billy bookcases? If you need more hidden storage as the baby gets older the doors for Billy are awesome. And container store makes excellent small containers that fit perfectly.
i love the rocking chair. who makes/made it?
thats a great room, for now. Once the baby can pull up the crib won't be safe and forget about keeping anything neat on those bottom 2-3 shelves. Nice for a non-mobile baby though.
That hanging bassinet is amazing. Finally, a bassinet that doesn't look like a wedding cake!! Yay! Also, I'm totally drooling over the rocking chair. I agree with jello though about the bottom shelves being a disaster as the kid gets mobile! But it is a lovely, lovely room. :)
i agree with jello...i'd be interested in seeing the evolution of this room as the baby grows and needs a more traditional crib or other sleep space.
This is the cutest baby room! I love the stripes and the colors are so great and will work well as she gets older. I also love that giraffe....I want one.
where is the hanging bassinet from? I want one!
I love the canoe crib, the frames arranged on the wall, and the plush white rug. From the pictures, it looks like you're inviting in a lot of natural light-- a personal favorite. Some well-designed kids' rooms are unrealistically tidy and prim, but this space is so creative, comfortable and inviting. Adorable!
Love the design! Also please share where you got all the cool decor/ furniture!
I love the crib and the rocking chair, where are they from?
The rocking chair is mid- century Danish a friend gave to us, eBay would be a good source and the other chair we got at an antique store. The changing table credenza was from a garage sale only $75! The hanging crib is from etsy called a canoe. We got a lot of old childrens books from thift stores too
This looks like a room out of a Wes Anderson movie,my wife and i are just in love with the
stripes. Its warm, cozy and just the right amount of nerdiness to keep the baby grounded as it gets older. We also have to say the furniture makes this room complete. Great work.
Sorry thats Kanoe baby hammock http://www.kanoe.us/
The Kanoe is actually safe past pulling-up stage, unlike the Amby etc. I like this room a lot! I presume, especially as Californians, the shelves are anchored to the wall?
we do a hammock too (not the Amby), and it's a godsend. They work just fine until the baby starts to want to roll around in their sleep (6-7 months) and then you have to transition them. By that point our daughter was good to go into a toddler-size bed with rails. We'll see how our son (3 weeks old) goes but he LOVES the hammock for now.
I didn't think I liked this room based on the first pic (shelving chaos), but I LOVE the rest of the room. I think a complete organizational overhaul of the shelves could be the difference between blah and awe. The stripes rock.
I adore this room, particularly the shelving. The shelving is PERFECT, as are the mid century touches. I will say this, and what I have to say most definitely outweighs my praises: that crib, however cool and pragmatic in terms of space, is a nightmare. I literally would not sleep soundly with that thing in my kid's room. I think you've got maybe three or four safe months with it, if that. Really, I would not scarifice safety, and I really do not think I am being all that neurotic here, for space or style, EVER.
