Harrowing Tales of Home-Buying

Harrowing Tales of Home-Buying

In their house hunt, the Johnsons came across several Eureka homes with "grow spaces" for a certain illicit crop... perfect for their future art studios!

This month's issue of ReadyMade features a Northern California couple, the Johnsons, two artists who recently bought a Victorian fixer-upper in Eureka. The couple offers tips on buying your first home in today's strange and confusing market, and their accompanying blog on ReadyMade's site describes their own home-buying process in detail...

If you're considering a home purchase, especially in a small city (or large town) like Eureka, the Johnsons' stories should be enlightening. They describe the bidding and counter-offer process, the ordeal of finding a good loan, and the importance of finding a good agent.

The blog will also detail the Johnsons' renovation stories as they get settled in. One recent post describes the DIY installation of a dishwasher using the barrel of a paintball gun in lieu of a drain hose... not a task for the faint of heart!

Garth Johnson and Claire Joyce are both artists, so we're excited to see how they fix up their home!

Are you in the process of buying your first home? Or do you have stories to share from when you went through it? Please share!
