How often do hats end up in a messy pile tossed on a shelf in the coat closet? That has definitely often been the case in my experience. But showing off a hat collection can look good in the home and will probably keep the hat in good shape for looking better on your head, too:
Whether in a straight and narrow row as in the first pic above or playfully scattered in a grouping alongside framed artwork (image 3), hats can accent a room's decor just like they can top off an outfit. Finally, I had to include the last collection — it's the world's largest cap collection. I love the compact rows of shelves built just for the caps — looks great!
Do you have hats? How do you store them? Would you ever consider keeping them on display?

Shaw's Original Fir...
How are the hats in the first picture hung?? Anyone know where I can get something like that?? I love it!
My roommate and I have amassed a collection of hats, and we currently have them hanging on a neglected - but highly visible! - section of wall on a vintage accordion hanger. It looks awesome. When you look closer and see there's an Elizabethan tall hat near a construction-area hard hat, separated only by a crocheted beret... it really only describes us more!
I have a small collection of my grandfather's old hats from the 30s and 40s, in their original fancy hatboxes. I've been looking for ways to display them. I'm sort of thinking of scattering them like in the 2nd picture along the free wall inside my closet (I have a walk in)..
Yes, I have hats. Yes, I store them. Preferably in hat boxes;I have no problem with styrofoam heads and YES I would display them. At one time, I had a matching hat for every suit.(That was alot 'a hats). Now I just need to find THE place for them,perhaps some of my beautiful paisley scarfs can be hung underneat them. It's a plan and a project. I have one room I use as closet, because I smoke and DO NOT want my coats, clothes,hats, gloves,etc. to smell like cigaratte smoke. This is, I believe, the place. I will have been here 2 yrs. this Jan.,so I still have some stuff to do ,but,thanks to you, my brain is ticking.
I love unique wall display ideas- especially collections!
I have a basket wall and a straw bag wall.
You can see those and others at http://styleandcentsability.wordpress.com/category/wall-display/
Thanks for the ideas, I inherited my grandmother's collection (it was actually in the will) and I need to do SOMETHING with them. I like pic 3 best, but I do worry about the dust...
@mavra
it looks like those accordion wood hangers you can get for cheap. They are usually nailed to the wall horizontally to hangs coats, but for the hats they just switched it to vertical..
I have a bunch of my great-grandmother's hats. I love them and wanted to do something like this, but my husband doesn't like it. I think it looks so good.
I love the clothespins idea and had thought about using that not too long ago. Unfortunately we are a no-wall-holes renter (we have concrete walls and use a picture rail) so I have to come up with something creative like the 3M poster tape.
