We don't know about you, but we definitely feel like we could use a little "island flavor" right about now. The June/July 2008 issue of Readymade Magazine has a great editorial on the home of Conn Brattain and John Giordini's home on Maui...
We love the humorous intro paragraph to the piece, "Conn Brattain and John Giordani are not dot-com millionaires, nor are they hippie burnouts. They don't have "family money," and they've never won the lottery. They don't even surf. In fact, they don't fit any of the clichés normally associated with haole transplants to these parts. They're just two guys who – like many of us, at one time or another – threatened to pack up and move to Hawai'i. Except they actually did it. Bastards."
Their home is a warm, comfortable mix mid century modern, casual island styling, and lots of great DIY ideas and examples of what can be done with a little elbow grease. The couple also give some great inspiration on living "as much as they can off the grid."

The issue features some of Conn and John's DIY ideas, including how to make your own flora print fabric, and lists a lot of the resources they've found to be helpful in creating their home. Check out even more pics and read their interesting story in the issue on newsstands now, or via the digital version at Readymade-digital.com
By the way, Conn and John also have a blog- check it out here!

Oh, wow... In the top photo, the two prints on the upper right are by Charley Harper, who passed away a year ago today. I just wrote about him this morning and showed one of tose serigraphs, entitled White Sands, New Mexico. The serigraph on the lower left in that photo is by his son Brett. Todd Oldham's book on Charley's work is on the table. Sorry to get off-topic, but I just love the Harpers...
I love that house! What a dream place to live. They are lucky indeed.
