Time to get your binge on: HBO announced today that it will be streaming all eight episodes of Insecure's first season for free. Here's how you can watch it, sans subscription.
Created by and starring Golden Globe nominee Issa Rae, Insecure's eight episode first season came with rave reviews (it has a 100% fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes). Mining her 2011 web series Awkward Black Girl for inspiration, Rae plays Issa, who along with best friend Molly (Yvonne Orji), take the viewer "on an insightful, raunchy, and hilarious journey... that cuts through stereotypes with sharp wit and an effusive spirit" (Rotten Tomatoes). It's "punctuated by Rae's pointed rap monologues and fantasies" and gives an "authentic, incisive and insightful exploration of the lives of contemporary black women" (HBO).
The half hour comedy returns for its eight episode sophomore season on July 23 at 10:30 pm, and that's the day HBO wants you to play catch up if you haven't already. The network is making all eight episodes available for free on HBO's YouTube channel and HBO.com for 24 hours starting at 6 am ET/3 am PT. The show will also be available to non-HBO subscribers on participating television and streaming partners' platforms and free on demand channels.
HBO has been adapting to these streaming times by allowing cord cutters new ways to subscribe to the service. Just last week, Hulu announced that the premium channel would be available as an add on to its base services for an additional $14.99 (just in time for the return of Game of Thrones on Sunday July 16 #WinterIsHere).
Insecure is co-created by former Nightly Show host Larry Wilmore and directed by Melina Matsoukas, the Grammy winning mastermind behind Beyoncé's Formation and Rihanna's We Found Love music videos.
