Healthy Toys Database

Toy safety and toy recalls have been a hot topic in 2007 and many parents are looking for resources they can trust for information. Here's one we feel confident about: the Healthy Toys database. Developed by the Ecology Center, a non-profit environmental advocacy organization in Ann Arbor, MI, the group tests toys for lead, cadmium, chlorine/pvc, arsenic and mercury and makes the results accessible via their database.

Only about 1,500 toys have been tested so far, but the database is growing every day. You can even nominate a toy for testing and they'll begin testing toys with the most votes first.

Search for a toy by name, by brand or by type. They rate the level of the five chemicals mentioned above as low, medium or high (or you can follow a link to see more detailed chemical results) and then give each toy an overall rating.

The worst toy they've tested so far? The Brush Your Teeth! Robot. Made in China? Nope, made in Italy.

Healthy Toys is one we're adding to our bookmarks!
