Frozen chocolate-covered banana slices are very simple to make and substantially better for you and your family than most frozen treats you find at the grocery store. Biting into one of these chocolate covered nuggets reveals a surprisingly ice-cream-like treat that would put most unwanted cravings to rest.
Inspired by (never home)maker I decided to take a stab at making a batch, with a few modifications as we didn't have all the ingredients on hand. No peanut butter or parchment paper for example, which would have been nice. But to increase the kid-appreciation factor I added some organic, naturally colored, sprinkles that I happened to have in the cupboard (I know, I know, how does one have organic sprinkles and NO nut butter!? It can't be explained.).
I also added sticks to the half dipped banana slices (see photo #2) which I let set in the freezer for an hour or so before dipping the other half. Verdict? Even though our little guy loves dessert he is not a banana fan at all; that did not stop him from declaring an emphatic love for these treats.

Oh, I might have to make these tonight. This weekend for sure.
The Bluths would appreciate this post. Yum!
laceylove read my mind. replace the sprinkles with nuts and a BLUTH BANANA BITE IT IS! let's see some bananas and nuts!
Ok, update--I followed the original recipe (choc and nut butter, but with sprinkles on top instead of coconut, because I don't like coconut), and they are AMAZING. Seriously. They take less than 10 minutes of prep time (even if your 2 year old is helping you, as mine was), and they are addictive. I just ate 2 and had to work hard to stop myself so there would be some left for the rest of the family. Mmmmmm.
