- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- I love how my bedroom feels when I wake up with the sunshine, not an alarm clock, on a Saturday morning. It has a calm quality with great light and I have put a lot of myself into the creation of the space. The dresser is a refurbish job, the photography is mine, and the striped wall is my handiwork. It's full of memories, both tangible and not, and lots of dreams.
- What are your tips for creating a beautiful, healthy and organized bedroom?
- My tips for creating the bedroom you love is to plan from the beginning how you want to use the space and what you need to fulfill all of those needs, and make an effort to surround yourself with things that you love and that put you at ease. Keep chaos out of you bedroom.
- In modern homes, bedrooms have become more than just a place to sleep; they can be a retreat, a home office, a library, a relaxation zone. What are some ways you make the most of your bedroom?
- I am a firm believer that the bedroom should be a sanctuary. I have always done my best to keep the craziness of daily life out -- no TV, no desk, no computer or phones. The bedroom is for restorative activities.

I love the woven strap chair! who is the maker?
That bed! Where did you get that bed!? It is amazing!
Very beautiful room. Love all the different textures and the mix of old and new. The dresser is gorgeous.
I love the look of platform beds..but have always wondered if they are hard to get out of without banging your legs? Absolutely wonderful space! Love all the details and the colors. I too love that chair and the striped wall..fantastic!
I absolutely LOVE this room. Talk about relaxing! This bedroom really sets the mode for just that! The bed is so inviting! Wonderful job!! I'm sure it is put to good use!
I wonder that about this bed in particular. I've seen other platform beds that aren't as deep but this seems like it would take a little more effort.
This post confirms it: no room is complete without a cat. Or two. I too was wondering how to get in and out of bed. A very nice combination of textures, with a nice touch of the stripes on the wall and the strap chair.
So glad you like the room. Thank you. I've had the bed for more than eight years and I've banged my leg on it only once. My new memory foam mattress makes exiting the bed a little more challenging, but I just sort of roll out and pop up.
The chair is actually a "souvenir" that I took from a retail clothing store where I used to work. The strapping was black and in really bad shape when I adopted the chair. I bought the pink webbing online and re-webbed (is that a word) it myself.
Oh, and the bed is from Urban Habitat here in LA.
No, it's not a Joe Andoe, although it does have a similar quality and of course the subject matter is right on. It's a giclee canvas by an unknown artist. I locked eyes with this beauty in the clearance section at Home Goods, but it can also be purchased (for way more than I paid = ) at Z Gallerie.
Where is the rug from?
Carly, I think the rug is from Home Goods, too. They've had a lot of colorful flat woven rugs with great patterns lately.
Love the light in the room and you can understand your comments so well about the thought you put in to this. It is a wonderful visual of your concept. Mission accomplished!!
A true sanctuary for me. I love the soothing colors and the lighting. Good job!
Love the horizontal stripes. That has been my trademark in my last two places, but I'm without them now. I think i miss it :)
How exciting! I actually KNOW this room. I actually KNOW this house! I actually KNOW this Heather! Congrats, Heather! Looking good! I especially love the simplicity of keeping the stripes on just the one wall.
Love this room. The bed rules. Did you make it yourself?
I love the simple & relaxing decor, especially the white linen, comfy, not too much work doing the bed when wake up in the morning. I like the horse painting. Congrats, Heather!
This is lovely. I especially like the dresser, the pink chair, and blue blanket, but the whole space has a great feeling to it.
The mirror above the dresser is one of my favorite things ever! And I love the relaxing colors of the room too!
LOVE IT!! So beautiful! I absolutely love the grey and white dresser :)
Really pretty. Fresh and natural. Your painting is awesome- Do you have a site to see more? Also- Is Lake Balboa an actual city now? That's so much better than dumpy old Van Nuys!
I love this rug but it kind of feels off in this room somehow? This totally makes me want to go paint stripes behind my bed pretty much right now.
Yes, Lake Balboa is it's own little burg now.
And, Yes, I agree that the rug pattern is a little off. I wanted green and needed a placeholder -- this is it. That said, I think something should always be a little off in every room, at least in my house. "A little off" is me and a space should always reflect it's owner.
