Name: Heath
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
I have always had a great eye for design. People come to my house and always say how fabulous it looks and "can I come do their house." My space is not too large with low ceilings, but has lots of light. Overall it's a great place, just very challenging to arrange.
I recently did a re-design of my living room and I call it "red-green garden room." If features red accents but also features lots of plants and botanicals, so this is why I call it as such.
Thanks, Heath!

Heath-Well your home is not my style, and that's fine. Glad to hear your friends like it...it looks to me like an elderly Asian woman lives there--the lamps, the flower prints, the orchid, and way too many houseplants. Are those the "friends" you are referring to?
Whoa burnttoast are you always so meanspirited or did you roll outta bed on the wrong side today?
I like this space, it is refreshing to see something other than the usual 'mid century' look that has become a cliche.
Love the soft warm glow and I want that velvet sofa!
I can't wait for my kids to be old enough so I can put something on a side table again. Heath, I have your same cherub lamp, with no shade on it. Yours looks very nice, I may have to copy you.
cheers to S. Teacup above, I agree with you it is nice to see something outside the minimalist/ironic vein once in a while.
Love that couch, it looks so comfy. Where did you get it?
Gorgeous room! I love the deep colors and that beautiful couch. Looks elegant and comfortable.
Can't tell much from these photos.
Simma down now burnttoast! Sheesh. Gorgeous couch and the lamps are really neat. Nice lighting- looks like a comfy home!
I agree with KatSD, it's hard to tell very much from these photos. If there are only going to be 5 photos, there probably shouldn't be 3 close-ups of vignettes.
While I'm glad you have confidence in your personal design style - which is important in order to make your space yours - it's not my taste.
I haven't seen tabletop fountains in quite a while. Also personally not my thing.
i don't see what the BIG deal is. You should look at some of the hours tours....your ego would be quickly deflated.
I can not tell much from these photos. Could we see more?
@burnttoast hahaha!
The room looks so cozy and I also LOVE the velvet sofa, yummy!!!
Hey negative people.....Did your mother ever tell you that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all? In other words, ZIP IT. Thanks:)

Is it any wonder, with comments like burnttoast's, sunrise's, and Magsalot, why people are so reluctant to submit their homes? Jesus.
At least keep the bitchiness confined to the contest entries, where (sadly) it's becoming the norm, and where at least those people have an actual prize at stake, and they are not just posting out of pride.
Heath--
A) Great name.
B) I don't always like the salon-style of hanging art, but yours is really nicely handled. And that is definitely NOT a skill shared by MANY posters on here. So, well done.
Patrick, you must know you're fighting a losing battle here. I've completely given up the hope of AT civility. But, lemons to lemonade, I've started a game called "Guess What Inane Thing the Commenters Will Complain About This Time" whenever I open up a new post. The results can sometimes surprise and even delight you!
the mix of greens & reds are so rich and warm looking. thanks for letting us into your lovely home!
PS: and i envy your green thumb!
Guess What Inane Thing the Commenters Will Complain About This Time?
Ha! What a great idea!! That's a refreshing way of approaching some of the seriously MEAN things that people say about others' homes.
in fairness to all the naysayers, i think heath's comments about having "a great eye for design" and how everyone thinks his place is "fabulous" put some people off a bit.
personally, i don't think he has the design chops to be making such comments about his space -- and even if he did, why say so?
Welcome to Amateur Design Fray! CLASH of the wannabes. Hey, @burnttoast, what's wrong with elderly Asian women? Hey, @greyscaledreamer, why should Heath care about the naysayers? Maybe they should all submit their interiors for a showdown ... Heath has a pretty good eye for color; the red accents work well with the walls and the couch. Individual pieeces of kitsch like the cherub lamp and the print behind it might be embarrassing by themselves, but together they demonstrate that Heath has looked at a lot of decorating magazines over the years. Let him have his proud moment on apartmenttherapy.com. At least he isn't showing off a square shelf Ikea bookcase and pretending it's Memphis.
Is this apartment therapy or merchandising therapy? In my humble opinion (I only feel the need to add that so that the hypersensitive amoung you dont get in a tizzy) this is dark, sad and busy. This is an open forum for opinion correct?
Thanks to everyone for the nice words. I just want to say that I did this for something fun to do. I don't claim to be a designer and I also don't need to be in the know about trends cuz I don't follow them, I do what I like and feels pleasing to me. I think I have a pretty good eye for design and that not something that is open for discussion or comment it is an opinion. I didn't also realize that some people here would be down right nasty about how someone's space looks. That's really sad. For those who asked about more pics, I would have sent along more pics but I didn't know that they were going to publish my photos directly, I thought I may be contacted first for more etc. Had I known this, I would have re-thought the process. But i enjoyed it and will do it again, my space is always evolving. Thanks all!
@xhtmlgirl it's from Restoration Hardware, I have the the matching chairs and ottomans also, it's terribly comfortable :-)
