Hammocks are often associated with vacations and relaxing outdoors, but that doesn't always have to be the case. If you really love lounging in a hammock don't wait until your annual vacation to do so. There's nothing wrong with installing one right in your own living room!
Don't be afraid to take a chance and do things a little differently. Sure, it's slightly out of the ordinary, but if you'd rather lounge on a hammock than your couch — so be it! Pick an interesting fabric to make a statement in the room. If the color palette is muted, pick a bright fabric to add a pop of color and some serious interest.
Hang a hammock near a large window in your home to mimic that relaxing and calming vibe from vacations or just pick a secluded corner in the house that's a chill zone. Would you hang a hammock in your home?

Nomade Express Slee...
I wouldn't mind, if the room were large enough that the hammock could be hung clear of traffic paths and clear of the center of the room.
I love number four.
I would LOVE to have a hammock instead of a sofa! Could someone provide more info for hanging a hammock safely in smaller rooms without exposed ceiling joists?
We are currently renting an old, awesome hippy barn house with an open floor plan while we build our new, awesome non-hippy house barn with an open floor plan. The rough hewn beams are perfect for hanging a bright hammock, much like the first picture. I hung it in a large alcove with lots of windows on both the southern and eastern walls. Though I thought it would be a bit of a hippy cliché, I knew it would be a great hangout space for my young daughter. Everyone who comes to visit is drawn to it. Most take it as an invitation for a nap. We all fought for hammock time in the sunny alcove throughout the winter. Though our new space will be more sophisticated, I fully plan on incorporating an indoor hammock in a sunny corner.
Just in case anyone interested in the rug in the picture, it is a Tibetan lamb fur rug we have it here at www.curlyfurimports.com
I wouldn't expect to like this, but it's surprisingly chic! Hm....maybe I'll start testing my ceiling for hammock-appropriateness.
I love this idea. We were thinking about doing that in our house so we can have a hammock above the couch. It'd be sort of a modern bunk.
Love hammocks. I'd replace my bed with one...if it wouldn't give off a creepy sex-swing vibe and if the ceiling wouldn't fall on me. Sadly, it would and it would.
I'm with Holly14--anyone have details on how to actually do this? I have an old metal garden swing that I'm dying to hang. I just don't know where to begin.
Great ideas.
I've recently begun enjoying a hammock in the backyard, and my favourite thing about it is the random gentle swinging in the breeze. I'd definitely miss that in a indoor hammock, but what the heck. It's a lovely way to nap!
Pretty much in love with the first photo! I remember trying to convince my parents to swap their basement couch for a huge hammock back in high school- no go;)
Be careful when hanging a hammock from the ceiling or walls, it can be done, but it's always risky.
The best way to do it, is to find the studs in the ceiling and screw an eyebolt into it make sure the screw goes in far enough and also don't do this if your home is built from decrepit wood. A good thing to do would be to test the sag of your hammock before you drill your final holes, if your hammock is off by like 5 inches in either direction, sometimes, it can make it way more uncomfortable. :)
If you don't really know what to do, get someone who knows a thing or two about buildings to help.
That said, I have a hammock in my living room, there is almost always someone napping or playing video games in it. Instead of drilling holes in the walls and ceilings I made a hammock stand. I like it much more because I can move it around if I need to(I love rearranging the furniture) and I can bring it with me when I stay at someones house for my bed.
(I'm a bit of a hammock nerd)
We have a hammock in every bedroom and the living room of our apartment. Granted we live in Brazil, so they are the way of life! Funny that now it's considered trendy!
I don't know if anyone is commenting about this anymore but, I am currently on a road were i am simplifying everything in my life. Starting with my sanctuary...my bed room. I have removed all my furniture and I just purchased a hammock with a hammock stand so I don't have to drill holes in my walls and more secure stability. Everyone thinks I am crazy but it is done all over Latin America, why not in Brooklyn NY. now I need advice on how to decorate my room...any suggestions???
beautiful photos. Brazilian hammocks are ideal for indoor use as well as for decorative purposes.
