We are always on the lookout for toys with inherent longevity. Shape sorters are a classic and they don't have to be the traditional box. Here are five "out of the box" designs to consider.

A few of these can be pulled and played with beyond the sorting stage. The Janod truck (we couldn't find this for sale in the US - sorry!), for example, satisfies the early "I can sit up and use my hands shape-sorter" stage, then the "I've learned to walk pull-toy" stage, and finally the "I'll play with anything that has wheels" stage.
