Q: I scored this mid-century modern dining set off of Craigslist and I'd like help identifying the designer. The previous owner said it was Teak (maybe Redwood) Danish modern and there's a label on one of the pieces that says Moreddi (a wholesaler/import company). While at first glance the captains chair looks like it should be part of the set, but I don't think it is original because the legs are round instead of the square/round legs of the others. The back is also shaped differently.

Can't help but it's gorgeous!
Looks like Arne Vodder pieces to me. I bought similar furniture in Denmark in the early 60's. They were teak. You probably got a GREAT deal on valuable furniture. Georgia B
I would check Farstrup, a Danish company.
Thank you, all! I will look up those names in a bit. I forgot to mention that there are 2 leaves that come with the table and that I don't even know if the other 3 chairs are original to the table either as there is a slight difference in design there too. And yes, it was a GREAT deal especially because it wasn't listed as MCM or Danish Modern, but as a regular ol' dining set. The seller knew it was MCM though, made in Denmark and said it was teak. I was so worried that the seller would change her mind when we got there!
i think you meant "rose wood" not "red wood". In any case it isn't either. It looks like teak to me. really nice score on in any wood. Congrats!
Yes, I wrote "rosewood" in my original email to the AT editorial team! How do you tell the difference between teak and rosewood? Online there are similar finishes to this one that describe the wood as rosewood while teak is lighter. I'm a MCM newbie so I don't know these things!
Possibly Otto Larsen...
I hope it may help... www.designaddict.com/design_addict/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread_show_one/thread_id/3420
I Know about Moreddi!
Hello!
I am Marni Frank. My Grandfather was Maury Frank who founded Moreddi with his Brother Ed Frank.
Moreddi was wholesale/import company that supplied furniture to their retail store, Frank Bros. Both companies were located in Long Beach Calif. Moreddi worked with a number of designers and manufacturers.
In the 1960's Frank Bros. & Moreddi split with Ron Frank (my father & Morry's son) taking over all of Frank Bros. & Ed Frank taking over all of Moreddi. Ed sold Moreddi in the early 1970's to DUX furniture.
Morry Frank died in early 1960. Ed Frank just passed away in 2005. My family still has the beautiful stamps that were used to mark the furniture they imported from Scandinavia.
If you are interested in more information I would be happy to hook you up with my father. He is always happy to talk to people about Moreddi, and so pleased people are still enjoying Moreddi furniture.

Thank you!
I did more sleuthing and also pored over the pieces with extra pairs of eyes and finally found some marks on them.
-The chair in the bottom picture is by Johannes Andersen for Moreddi.
-The table has the labels, Domus Danica and Heltborg Mobler and I think it's by John Mortensen.
-The other chairs are also imported by Moreddi, but I still can't figure out the designer.
oh, and the table is rosewood, not teak
