For the most part, the entire month of November and December are 'kid cloud nine'. There are often relatives in town, parties, gifts, SANTA and all kinds of fun holiday-related activities. It's easy for kids to become hyped up. If yours need a moment to calm down, this simple jar and its magical contents may do the trick.
We checked in at Chasing the Firefly after seeing Madge's neat project on Pinterest. To help her children keep calm she filleda canning jar with glitter glue, water and...more glitter.
The idea is that when the jar is shaken, the child is to sit and watch the glitter settle and when it has then they can resume whatever they are doing. Think of it as a cool time out or possibly an early intervention. Read more at Chasing the Firefly.

There's a great kids book called Moody Cow Meditates about using a glitter jar to deal with anger. We read the book and made moody cow jars for everyone in the family. My daughter loves hers and uses it often to have a quiet moment. We use water, glitter and glycerin, and a drop of dish soap (to break surface tension to help the glitter sink).
This is something we could use!
I could use this at the office! Whenever a co-worker gets on my nerves I could sit quietly with my jar of glitter and cool down. Doing It!
This is a great idea! We have a book by the same author as the Moody Cow book mentioned above, and they suggest something similar except with dirt instead of glitter.
I've been meaning to make one, and think my daughter would definitely prefer glitter.
I like the idea of using it at the office. I could use this as well!
I made this with my daughter this weekend and it is so beautiful! She tinted the water the deepest purple and we put multi-colored glitter in it. She's been shaking it all weekend and commenting how it looks like "a starry night." Great project!
