Help Me Choose New Furniture for My Living Room?

Good Questions

Q: I've been living in my flat for five years now, and have decided that I want to replace the furniture in my living room. As you see by the movie posters on the wall, I'm a big movie fan. So it all started with the wish to replace my current 42" TV with a new 60" one (bigger is better, right? :-). But then I thought that it's time to finally get some decent furniture. I mean, the current setup does its job, but a room like this could look better.

First off, I don't know how to fix the main problem zone of this room: the TV area. The TV can only stand in that specific corner, and I have not found any better idea how to solve this. I even thought about hiring a carpenter, but to do that, I need to know what he should build. The next thing I want to change is the sofa. The current one is an IKEA Karlstad, but after 5 years it's time to replace it.

Do you have any sleek ideas for the TV corner? And what kind of sofa would you put in this room (form, material, color)?

And finally, what other pieces would you add to complete the room? I have to say that I don't like rooms overloaded with furniture, and prefer it when there are only the essential pieces, without bells and whistles. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
