Henry's Modern Dot Nursery

My Room

Name: Henry (5 months)
Location: Holbrook, Massachusetts

This room used to be a spare bedroom that we had converted into a walk-in closet. Losing it was hard, but when we found out I was pregnant, we immediately started spring cleaning. We took apart our closet system and painted over the gray walls with a beige. This worked as a great neutral for bringing in bright pops of color.

I knew I didn't want an overly boy room when I found out the gender, so I decided to do a modern scheme of teal and orange, with other colorful accents.

We received the crib as a hand-me-down, and based all the other furniture off of the white and dark wood. My husband loved this glider, and was very excited when the manufacturer had the color we wanted as a demo model for sale. The bedding was purchased next, and then colors from the dots were pulled for the rest of the decor. Continuing the dots motif, I found a rug with interconnected circles, a fun dotted shelf bin, and a side table that was round, at the perfect height next to the glider. The clock and record on the door complete this color scheme. I also threw some animals into the mix — birds in the handmade valance, stuffed giraffe on the side table, and cardboard moose head.

I knew I wanted to have a lot of fun artwork in the room, so I framed an alphabet poster and caricatures of the family I had created in a gallery, along with childhood photos of my husband and I, and a concert poster.

I love that this room turned out so playful, but at the same time is very relaxing.
