Name: Henry (3)
Location: Park Falls, Wisconsin
This room in our home was being used as a media room, until our son Henry came along. We still use part of it for a computer area, but the rest of the room has become a simplistic, well-loved playroom.
The idea was to keep it inexpensive (we kept the dated wood wainscotting so he could abuse it all he wanted without me having to worry about it!), and usable, not just trendy and cute. I also don't like a lot of stuff, and find that children don't either. They become overstimulated with too many choices and end up just making one big mess!
We built the reading tent ourselves and it really is the heart of the room. I work in a Kindergarten classroom, and like how the classroom is set up in stations/areas. I did something similar in this room so we could keep things organized and to help the creative juices flow.
Many of the items in this room are from IKEA (queen of cheap here!), or just leftovers from other parts of the home.
As for style, I'm sure many people would prefer more color, but I've found that the toys provide the color, and the room and the furniture are just a backdrop to fill with fun!
