We're a few days away from the start of our biggest event of the fall season. The Room for Color contest is our annual search for beautiful, colorful interiors. We welcome rooms of all sizes and styles - small or big, traditional or fashion forward, found in homes that have been years in the making or in first apartments. If you have a fantastic, color savvy room to share, this is your contest.
Stay tuned for how to enter and the scoop on prizes (everything goes live next week) — while you wait, we suggest getting out your camera and start snapping photos of YOUR most beautiful colorful room. It never hurts to be the early bird!

Love the photo. That's the color of my bathroom!
You know, every year I say that I am going to get my act together and enter the next one, but I always forget about it!
man, i wish they would have a 'room for color in-process' contest! or 'room for color in my imagination' or 'not yet exectued room for color' contest!
Well then! Last year, I was overseas and my rental room was decorated in various shades of white and beige. This year, I'm back in my purple and yellow room - I'm in!
I do like teal too, but it's funny that in 2009 and 2010 both with teal were the winners.
I look forward to seeing what people can do with subtle soft tones.
I KNEW there was a reason I went with the chartreuse!
While I'm excited about this contest, the first thought that went into my mind was "RIP Home Cure".
Still missing it.
Loora,
The Cure will be back - our schedule is shuffled a bit this fall because we have lots in the works, tech and design-wise behind the scenes, but the Cure is integral to our mission - it's just time shifted, not gone.
Will it be an 8 Week Cure? I did the last full one and loved it. I have tried to do the smaller ones, but I just can't seem to keep up with them. I think they are a little too fast paced for me, and I just can't keep up.
I do love the Room for Color contest though. It's always fun seeing so many different rooms that often don't look like what you'd see in a home tour.
Thank you Janel, for your answer ! I'm really excited about the color contest, and if I can still get the Cure... well, it's a perfect world !
I wish I knew where the Zwicky poster is from. I live on a street called Zwickystrasse!
got it. http://www.internationalposter.com/poster-details.aspx?id=SWL07514
totally out of my reach.
I might just enter this year! Just depends on how many rooms I need to highlight, since we don't have very many.
ElectricKatie,
Just one! This contest is all about great color in a single room.
Oh man, I reaaalllly want to enter but I'm so not finished with the room....but I also don't want to wait one whole year!
Just wanted to add my names to the Cure-hungry!! It's been over a year and a half since the last "real" cure, right?? I've moved and I'm ready for a new one!!
@Janel will it be a full cure? I'm jonesin.
diademydo - not sure about the specifics - Maxwell heads up The Cure and hasn't given me an exact time frame yet - sorry. As soon as I know more, we'll post an announcement. Glad everyone is looking forward to it!
Ooh, I didn't realize it was just one room! I guess all the studios threw me. I think I can manage one room. Maybe.
LittleMiss - unless you are like me, and put it off for a year and still aren't ready!
I'm sorry if I'm being dense, but where can I find out what paint color/company that teal is from? Dying to paint my bedroom something similar!
A question! How many entries can be submitted per household? I'd love to submit my room, but a family member would also love to submit either one of the bathrooms or her own room...
That looks so much like my daughter's room, except for the zillion square feet.
Yes, red and green GO together! Love the use of the IKEA leaves in the little seating area, or is that the bed.
Love, love, love the canopy around the bed - what a wonderful idea for a studio apartment!
alahoop, this is my second year putting it off!
Question to AT - if we submit a room this year can we resubmit the same room? It's not "done" but I would like to enter this year but only if it won't disqualify any future submissions.
Well, I think I'll have to wait... The " your" part may or may not apply: technically all the rooms I've colored haven't been mine, and my landlord picked/painted ours... But I may have picked the same ones...
That baby picture is adorable!!
OMGTHATBABY!!!
LittleMiss, mine too. :)
I took pictures over the weekend, but I haven't decided what to do yet.
My living room will probably never be done, so I guess now is as good a time as any. I am not sure how I feel about opening my house up for critique though. Some people can be so harsh... but then, Farrow and Ball? I just don't know.
Ack! Screaming babies. Talk about the number one reason not to enter this contest!
You know, I don't seem to find the picture of baby in obvious distress "cute." Then again, I'm a mom to a 4-month-old baby so I may be overly sensitive...
The color is lovely but I look at this picture and focus completely on the baby, who seems to be trying to keep its little face above that poofy comforter with arms that aren't working yet.
I thought the baby was yawning....is it not? Seems like if he/she was crying the face would be red and wet.
