George Nelson began his design for what became the Swag Leg Group with the simple desire to create furniture with a sculptured leg. Now, the group has taken it a step further and began adding different sizes and finishes (the newest being the extra-large Rectangular Work Table complementing the original Swag Leg Desk above), leaving little to be desired as far as desk estate options go for your laptop or desktop computer.
[Update: We agree must with our readers, the IKEA JERKER was not even close to a good alternative to something as elegant as the Nelson Desk. If anyone knows of a cheaper alternative, please let us know in the comments!]
"Swaging" - using pressure to taper and curve a metal tube - is the method used to shape Nelson's legs, which are made of 16-gauge steel and have adjustable glides. The laminate finish can be either white or walnut, depending on your preference. It's also easy to assemble, making shipping economical and cheap.
The Herman Miller® Nelson™ Swag Leg Rectangular Work Table will run you a good $1,250.00. While it's probably not the best investment in this financial crisis, it sure has the looks to match the premium price tag.

Hmm - the swag leg desk doesn't remind me AT ALL of that IKEA desk - but the IKEA desk certainly is cheaper in price...
Yeah, I have to agree--the Jerker doesn't seem to be a knockoff of the Swag desk at all.
The Ikea Jerker is more a knock-off of the Drafting Table designed by George Nelson for Herman Miller.
The CB2 swoop desk compares itself to the Nelson desk:

I think an earlier AT comment thread debated where it fits on the continuum from knockoff to inspired-by to no thanks, try again. I did see one in person yesterday and it looks much nicer than I expected.
I like the proportions of the plain swag leg work table - I hadn't seen it before. Nice.
it looks cheap
Nelson desk is so nide... but I like CB2 variant also... is there anything like it aviable in Europe? :(
