Because of this crippling phobia, I have never really considered going into an Hermès--until I saw this photo of the latest flagship store on the Rive Gauche, that is.
This new Hermès store was built in a swimming pool from 1935! Pretty cool, huh? The wooden structures by Denis Montel of Rene Dumas Architecture Interieure serve to highlight the company's home furnishings with clothes and leather goods lining the pool area.
I think it may be time to get over my fear.

White Enamel Flatwa...
Meh, I'm not particularly fond of fashion house work when they go into furniture. It seems like all the sense of fun that the have in clothing is usually lost when translated to furniture, ie, Todd Oldham, Ralph Lauren. And from what I see of Hermes it is pretty much the same thing. The furniture looks like Crate and Barrel stuff. The display area is lovely though...
It's actually rather difficult to just walk into Hermés and buy a bag (read "Bringing Home the Birkin" by Michael Tonello for the full story), but they do have less-horrifyingly-expensive things like enamel bracelets.
That furniture is, frankly, disappointing. My local Hermés store always has cute, whimsical window displays, so I would've expected something more jubilant.
don't be scared to go in! i love hermes but can't afford it and i probably look it. however, the folks who work there are have all been super nice to me.
I've been in that store, it's a pretty cool set-up! Don't be afraid, lots of people stop in, not just those looking for a Birkin fix :)
