As sweet as sweet tea. Southern belle and Canton, Georgia designer Christina Ray was the latest casualty in another double-elimination week on HGTV’s Design Star in the episode that featured a wedding design that would challenge the most seasoned pro. Christina talked about why all-nighters in Vegas were no party, why even getting filmed shaving her legs was all in a day’s work, and why she thinks there is room for "nice" on reality TV. She also talks about how they edited out some of her attempts to satisfy the groom. Oh my.
Christina, with the beauty queen looks and the lilting Southern drawl, took time from her busy Saturday to talk to AT about the show’s strict timeframes (but how it’s actually relevant in the real world), how the lack of sleep was a theme she was introduced to even before she was chosen to compete, why she thought castmate Lisa Millard was axed too early, and what host Clive Pearse is really like. Like she did on the show, Christina maintained her Southern charm to the end, as she handicapped the remaining finalists, talking about their strengths, and not their weaknesses. She was a real peach and we wish her all the best in her busy design business. And ATers, rejoice… she speaks fondly of the big Swede, IKEA, as she shares her tips for designing for a small space. Remember, each week we’ll be interviewing the latest fallen Star from the cast of Design Star. And hear all about the show direct from the HGTV VP, Event Programming, James Bolosh, in the interview that kicked off the season of this HGTV ratings powerhouse exclusively for AT readers.
