Affordable Color: 10 Sources for Bright Accessories

OK, so it's Friday, and I'm feeling pretty random. It seems like a good day for a weird, funny — and maybe a little bit pointless — roundup. Most home stores carry accessories and a full guide could easily be pages long, but I'll keep it quick today — here are 10 sources that specialize in bright décor that won't break the bank.

  1. Poketo
They sell limited edition, artist-made items, and they have a good supply of not-too-serious things for the home. These are their Spacetime Wall Decals, $48.
  2. Etsy
Always a good source for the weird and wonderful, Etsy's home décor category is full of both tasteful and ridiculous things. I think this yellow Cast Iron Deer ($34) could be either, depending on where it ends up.
  3. Pearl River Mart
Known for good deals, this New York store carries inexpensive paper lanterns, dishes, and artwork in a range of colors. At $16.50 a piece, these Large Paper Lanterns are a cheap way to introduce some bold style.
  4. West Elm
Their selection of storage boxes is good, and they're pretty basic and classy when it comes to tchotchkes. These are their Recycled Spanish Glass Vases, $12.
  5. Pop Deluxe
I love this Wisconsin shop for their selection of silly things. This is so ridiculous, I felt like I had to post it — for just $25, you too can own a Pop Chairman MAO Inflatable Pillow.
  6. Fish's Eddy
Looking for something colorful for the kitchen or dining room? This New York store is the place to go. They carry a mix of new and vintage pieces, including this Jadeite Mortar and Pestle, $27.
  7. Urban Outfitters
Their niche is trendy, inexpensive stuff — this $10 Color Etch Letter is a typical U.O. find. Plus, they've almost always got a clearance section full of accessories.
  8. CB2
The kid sister of Crate & Barrel, they have a younger, brighter, and less expensive aesthetic. These Felt Baskets are currently available there for $13 - $30.
  9. SaveOnCrafts
Craft stores are always a good bet for home décor on the cheap, and this online shop is a good resource to bookmark if you're a crafter. They have a section dedicated to affordable display items, like this $14 Glazed Blue Bird.
  10. Renegade Handmade
The bi-coastal Renegade Craft Fair has a permanent home in this Chicago shop, which features pillows, artwork, and home décor by over 300 artists. This is their Green Forest Pillow by Wonder Thunder, $25.
