This is a week of High & Lows — we found a desk and a table and now a rug. The new Stacked Boxes rug from West Elm immediately reminded us of Patricia Urquiola's Sliding Rugs for Spanish company Gandia Blasco. Not only is this new rug from West Elm much more affordable (we can't even find a price for the Urquiola rugs) it is also much more accessible — easily ordered online or through a catalog...

Patricia Urquiola's Sliding Rugs.

West Elm's Stacked Boxes Rug
measures roughly 5' x 8' and is $279. It is currently only available in the putty/clay/horseradish color combination.

I've read a lot of negative reviews of west elm rugs. Are they really that bad?
I can't speak personally to the quality of West Elm rugs, but a coworker of mine just had an interesting experience. He had purchase a white, shaggy rug from them about a year ago, and since then it has been shedding like crazy. He went in to the Chelsea store last week to complain about it, and they told him that his rug is no longer stocked due to the large number of complaints. They also told him he could bring it in to exchange it for a newer white rug that they offer as a replacement -- which he did without a problem.
The jury's still out on whether the new rug will hold up, but I thought I'd mention this in case anyone else has been having the same issues with shedding.
These rugs look like the Black Flag bars on acid if you ask me.
The West Elm color scheme is just awful.
Just because they are shaped the same does not mean they are comparable.
